As Israelis protest against the rising cost of living, Inside Story looks at Israel's growing class divide.

More than 100,000 people took to the streets of 11 cities in Israel on Saturday to protest against the spiralling cost of living in the country.

Protesters at the largest gatherings, in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Be'er Sheva and Haifa, chanted "the people demand social justice" and "we want justice, not charity".

Israelis take to the streets

Protestors, angry at high housing prices and an indifferent government, could cause a political realignment in Israel.

Imagine if the anti-establishment fervor that followed the 2008 economic collapse produced a political movement that was essentially progressive rather than reactionary.

The fury that swept the country might have been directed at the people who caused the collapse and the people who did nothing to mitigate its effects.

The Israelis demands are quite different from the Arabs demands,so I don't think what is happening in Israel intends to change the regime. Unlike the Arabs, Israelis are doing similar thing as in many other nations like Students demos in UK, CHADEMA demos in Tanzania and even COSATTU demos in South Africa.
