The Government of Uganda has revealed plans to construct 2.6 million houses for low-income earners currently living in slum areas as part of its housing strategy for the 2026/2027 financial year.

According to the proposal, the project aims to improve living conditions for vulnerable urban populations by providing affordable housing and reducing the growth of informal settlements. The initiative is expected to target residents in major urban centers, including the capital, Kampala, where many low-income families live in overcrowded and poorly serviced neighborhoods.

To prepare for the large-scale housing project, the government has allocated UGX 8 billion for a feasibility study that will assess the viability, design and implementation plan for the proposed housing developments. The study will also determine suitable locations, construction models and financing mechanisms for the project.

The government has always had these initiatives but never implemented, before you hear it, They hand over the land to a rich man like Ham Kigundu to build a mall or shops, the poor people are always rotating in the poverty cycle
