CHADEMA Secretary General Dr. Vincent Mashinji on Monday, May 16, 2016 has started a 5 days working visit in Ghana where along with other activities; he will attend a strategic meeting on electoral issues.
During this visit, Secretary General Dr. Mashinji will meet Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana, CHADEMA sister’s party, for consultation, sharing strategies and political experiences.
Nana Akufo Addo, is a well known academic and politician, recognized as one of the leaders of pro-democracy movement in Ghana against militarism, who also from 2001-2007, served with excellence in John Kufour’s government at different high-ranking portfolios before resigning to contest for presidential candidate within his party and eventually as NPP flag bearer in 2008 and 2012 general election where he posed unbending challenge against John Atta Mills and John Mahama respectively on the two different occasions.
SG Dr. Mashinji will also meet Dr. Klaus Schüler who was a campaign manager for the current serving Germany Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
Dr. Schuler, who is also the General Manager of CDU, the ruling party in Germany, is a person of vast experience in election campaigns, with a record of campaigning and achieving victory for Chancellor Merkel since she assumed power for the first time in 2005 to the present.
With SG Dr. Mashinji in the working visit, is the Director for Parliamentary and Council Affairs, John Mrema who during the last General Election played a great role as campaign manager for CHADEMA’s presidential candidate, Edward Lowassa who also represented the UKAWA coalition in the 2015 hotly contested polls.
Ghana, which has been one of the few countries in Africa with the exemplary manner for the human developments it has achieved and respect for democratic principles of pluralism, will hold its general elections in November this year.
Apart from Tanzania, some other 15 countries are attending the conference in Accra. The number includes Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, DRC, Angola, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo, Burkina Faso, Benin, South Africa, Ghana and Germany.
