Tanzania is redrawing its shape into GLOBAL arena’s page, its lights went dim in a series of six years ago. The whole world knew Tanzania as an isolated governing block. Business Communities, development partners and aligned diplomatic friends were amazingly doubting our trend. The civic space was shrinking a day to day, people were struggling and even worse, the NATURE was rounding to an end.

For years now, Tanzania has been renown and well branded a tourist’s destination, because of the nature. It is proudly and loudly to say that we need a developed Tanzania, but with strategy, informed decision and with leaders who clearly understand the GLOBAL trend, interests and demands.

Over 6 months now Tanzania has taken its surprising norm upside down, the political party with this sixth regime has witnessed and experienced the reward of the former regime existed into power in good six years.

I can list a lot, but today's article is specifically to address the NATURE under the phrase “environmental and development projects”. The two dilemmas; to have well-developed projects while destructing our environments, or the maintain our nature and remain undeveloped and with poor infrastructure! Neither of the two, I think all these are just discussions with sided interests.

Referring the ongoing projects which are facing funding challenges whereby no any environmentalist and so called blocks and development partners dare to inject or commit funds, grants or loans due to the facts that are ANTI-NATURE and harm (not environmental friendly), they are worrying to be part of destruction, rather would invite the alternative projects while advocating the SDGs, environment as their priority.

The issues of decision making, balance of power, coordination between sectors have long been recognized as a challenge for the governance of renewable natural resources due to multiple thinking, perception, levels and CAPACITY of governance. Decision has been centralized, only few can guide who to say and how to say it, and possibly how to decide over our natural resources and conservation.

Purposely, this article meant to address the issue of all those projects which financiers including IMF and World Bank are now out, and not interested in them.

In 2018, WORLD BANK adopted its new strategy on climate change and environmental protection WB not to finance any fossils fuels projects. So, as for now they don't as their against it even if before 2018 when WB has been financing TOTAL and Exmobile on explorations.

China has frankly announced the same trend of not supporting any projects that may harm the nature, and that China is going to accelerate transition to a green and low-carbon economy and achieve green recovery and development.

Tanzania as a developing country is looking at oil and gas activities to support its industrialization agenda and it’s not a signatory to Kyoto protocol. What is the role of world bank to ensure that countries like Tanzania who are depending on such resource are not given stricter rule for the same? To clear the doubt, consider the recommendations below:

My polite economic and political diplomacy recommendations;
i. Our existing projects should re-test a framework developed from political ecology, policy coordination, and adaptive governance for both players and beneficiaries of the project.

ii. Her Excellency Hn. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has a diplomatic table in New York to meet decision makers and CORRECT where we didn’t consider international or UN requirements during the implementation of our existing projects

iii. Policy-makers and practitioners to understand and have clarity on how the governance of ecosystems can be maintained and improved regardless greater construction of development projects.

iv. Learn from the mistake made by former regime, the proper coordination and cooperation between and within levels of governance, local and international is very important, as Tanzania is not an island, we cannot operate as an isolated, we need to world and the world needs us.

v. Separate the political parties and common world, outside the political party, there are some ecosystems at place. Politics can control the rest wisely.

vi. The government of Tanzania, at the 76’s UN congress may be a good listener and switch to the trend as a quick response to the global arena, if possible to ask for a guaranteed best practices for public interest and projects sustainability.

vii. Ask for way forward and cross-check if those development partners can accept and sit for addendum of which they can think to re-finance the existing project if Tanzania can comply with the recent and immediate terms. We need all projects done, and we need our environment remained undestructed.
