In this article I will be using mostly the first family of Rwanda, the Paul Kagame's as pictorial examples.
We are well conversant with the Dutch men and the Latvian women being the world's tallest people towering over all other nationalities. And according to studies, the average Dutchman stands at a height of 183cm (6ft) while the average Latvian woman reaches a height of 170cm (5ft 7in).
But have you heard of the Tutsi tribe in the East Africa country Rwanda?. Their average height is 5 feet 9 inches that is 175 cm although individuals have been recorded as being taller than 7 feet that is a whole 213 cm. The Tutsi are one of three native people in Rwanda and Burundi in East Central Africa, the other two being the Twa and the Hutu.
The Tutsis also known as the Watutsis were a nomadic people who have deep roots in the Africa Great Lakes region. The current President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame and his wife Jeannette Nyiramongi- Kagame are Tutsis and you can see this fact by their height. President Paul Kagame is well known as the tallest African Leader.
I can rightly infer that the two most famous ethnic group in Rwanda are the Tutsis and the Hutus, though they are actually very similar as the speak the same language, inhabit the same areas and follow the same traditions. However, Tutsis are often taller and thinner than Hutus, with some saying their origins lie in Ethiopia.
The 1994 Rwandan Genocide / Genocide against the Tutsis: The rivalry between the Hutu group and the Tutsi group began on the 6th of April, 1994, when a plane carrying President Juvenal Habyarimana (a Hutu) and Burundi President Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot down.
This led the Extremist Hutus to blame the Tutsi rebels for the attack, with the Tutsi rebels denying this accusations and blamed members of Habyarimana's own government.
This angered the Hutu's and as a result the genocide was sparked and in just 100 days in 1994, over 800,000 people were slaughtered in Rwanda majorly the Tutsis and a moderate number of Hutus.
Their Language: The Tutsi tribe speak Rwanda-Rundi which is a group of Bantu Languages especially the Kinyarwanda and Kirundi. And both have been standardized and established as the official languages of both Rwanda and Burundi. With French being the third official language and a remnant of the region’s French colonial legacy.
The Tutsis have a really statuesque height, no wonder the first family of Rwanda are really living giants because they are full blooded Tutsis.
Miss Tutsi pageantry... Look how tall they all are!
