TANZANIA’S motorists are spending less money on every litre of petrol purchased compared to their peers in East Africa region.
The country, according to GlobalPetrolPrice.com Dec 19 data, spend 0.84 US dollars per litre, which is the lowest compared to Uganda 0.89 US dollars—the second lowest in the region.

The third lowest is Kenya 0.93 US dollars followed by Rwanda 1.01 US dollars and Burundi 1.17 US dollars.

However, on price for diesel, Uganda is the lowest in EAC where a litre is sold at 0.74 US dollars, then Tanzania 0.80 US dollars, Kenya 0.86 US dollars.

Burundi maintains its position as the most expensive country as motorists are buying a litre of diesel at 1.10 US dollars followed by Rwanda 1.01 US dollars. According to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, the average price of gasoline around the world is 0.98 U.S. Dollar per liter as of December 19.

“All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes. As a result, the retail price of gasoline is different,” the website says.
