Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the arrest of a top former government official for allegedly stealing more than $2bn (?1.3bn) meant for Boko Haram fight.

Col Sambo Dasuki, who was the national security adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has been accused of awarding phantom contacts to buy 12 helicopters, four fighter jets and ammunition.

But the equipment never arrived and the former government aide allegedly stole the cash. He has strongly denied the allegations.

A spokesman for President Buhari told the BBC that the corruption resulted in the needless deaths of thousands of Nigerians.

The country's soldiers have long complained that despite huge sums of money being spent on military hardware they were ill equipped to fight Boko Haram.

The Islamist group has killed thousands in the north of the east country in its pursuit of an Islamic state.

Well this will have a minimal or no impact at all simply because the war on terror today needs a series of persistent efforts to dismantle networks of violent extremism

its sad people want equipment to fight the terrorist some take the money and eat it all!!!!! arrest all of them

this is the benefit people get when they change the government, it will never happen in a country where the ruling party is the same over and over! like here in tanzania there could be even bigger corrupt deals but guess what they will all disappear

What you mean in other words is to say persistent even without the necessary hardware would suffice in dealing with Boko haram.😈😈

The minister misappropriated the money meant to enhance the security of Nigeria, he therefore ought to be punished.
His actions have disrupted those ''series of persistent efforts'' (whatever they are) you have referred to in your statement.
