Students in the East Africa region will from next month be able to transfer credits to higher education institutions if presidents of the five countries approve the proposal.

Ministers for education in the region have agreed on a draft declaration for implementation of a harmonised higher education system.

“It is our anticipation that the forthcoming summit of heads of state will approve the declaration and pronounce the EAC as a common higher education area,” said Inter-University Council for East Africa Chief Principal, Quality Assurance and Qualifications Framework Dr Cosam Chawanga Joseph.

The five partner countries are Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

Dr Joseph explained that the exercise which was supposed to be done late this year was postponed due to the EAC principles of procedures in decision making. The council of ministers noted that the initial submission of the declaration to the council had not gone through the line sectoral council for education, science, technology, culture and sports.

“Harmonisation of education of higher education or education in general is a process not an event that we are aspiring to achieve as a one-off target,” he added.

The framework was developed by the council in consultation with regulators of national higher education, Commission for University Education Kenya included.

Under the common higher education system, the countries in the region will recognise academic certificates from higher education institutions across the region, and students will be able to transfer credits.

Itawezekanaje hili? Wanafunzi kutoka Kenya wataweza kunufaika sababu nchini Uganda mwanafunzi wa Form one ataenda University! Kutoka darasa la nane ataenda Form 3!
Sasa sielewi University watalinganisha kivipi?

they are kin to soil our education system
the kind of education system in other east African countries is of low quality compared to Kenya .a class eight pupil in Kenya is equivalent to a form two student in Uganda and Tanzania I don't know the criteria they will use to ensure that quality is adhered to.

Nonsense, what have you produced out of your education other than English speakers?
Kidding yourselves can't make your education better.
Some smart form two student from Tanzania is capable of passing your form four exam.

Take it from me.....i have firsthand experience to authoritatively declare that a form four Kenyan graduate is far behind a Tanzanian or Ugandan form four graduate in terms of knowledge acquired.

firsthand experience my ass!! Kenya's education system has been ranked the best in Africa ,Kenya's level or literacy is 89 ,Uganda 71% and Tanzania 65% .therefore its very ironical for you to insinuate That your students are better than ours when they can't construct a comprehensive sentence in English . 80% of Tanzanian can not differentiate between worry not and worry out. are those the people you're telling me?

You people you must be kidding. Who told you the ability and or knowledge of a person is measured on his fluency in speaking English?

BTW, you are good in Kikuyu and the like than what you purport to be capable of!

Information on literacy, while not a perfect measure of educational results, is probably the most easily available and valid for international comparisons. It is impossible to overstate the importance of education especially in Africa. Low levels of literacy, and education in general, can impede the economic development of a country in the current rapidly changing, technology-driven world.

Ya raghbi! yaani hivi Tanzania iko huku chini Dah! Mambo ya umoja wa elimu hapa yatakuwa magumu! Ona Uganda!! Lol
Nilimaliza kidato cha sita na washkaji hata hawajui wanaenda somea nini chuo kikuu, kuna watz hua wanashangaza sana kwenye suala la elimu, ukienda vyuoni wengi wanasoma tu wapate vyeti Yaani ile bora liende .....siwezi fahamu kenya Au Uganda hali ikoje lakini kumaliza chuo kikuu bado sio usomi je mtu amejitambua? Anaweza tumia elimu yake kujikomboa ? Hapo ndipo penye kazi

I know you public school curricula and I always check your KCSE exams . I repeat, a smart form two student from Tanzania can easily pass your KCSE exams.
I attended higher education abroad with many Kenyans. Most of them are pinweight students especially in science subjects.
Stop overrating your shallow education.
