AFCON 2017: CAF confirms Kenya's bid

Kenya has been formally confirmed as one of the six countries in contention to hosts the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition.

Kenya joins Algeria, Ghana, Egypt, Gabon Sudan and Zimbabwe as successful applicants after Tanzania ineligibility on ground of failing to ever hosting the Youths competitions in previous occasions.

Facilities

CAF has also stated on the need to meet the Executive Committee’s requirement of acceptable infrastructure and facilities required with Stadia, communications, training grounds and accommodation services posed to influence on the eventual host.

The country is expected to face strong challenge from the better equipped counterparts in Ghana, Egypt and Algeria.

The host country will be chosen at a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in 2015. Cameroon won the right to host the 2019 AFCON while Ivory Coast and Guinea were selected for the 2021 and 2023 editions respectively.
