An unidentified man was shot dead after he tried to force his way into the police station in Paris.
The man appeared to be wearing the suicide belt but this could not be confirmed by the police immediately.
The attempted attack came shortly after president Hollande addressed the New years speech to the police and gendarmes.
The anti-explosive device robot searching the body of the suspected attacker.
Reports also are saying the man was wielding a huge knife and was shouting Allahu Akbar.
There are at least to lines of trains on metro service which are currently shut for security reasons although the are no any suggestions that they are connected to the attack on police station, which is located in the district of Goutte D" Or.
The closed lines are metro line 2 which connects between Paris and Blanche and Belleville and line 4 for Reaumur-Sebastopol and Porte de Clignancourt.
Security in Paris has been tightened since two attacks of Charlie Hebdo in January 2015 which 17 people were killed and November whereby 130 were also killed by gunmen armed with machine guns and explosives.
