Position
: Project Agronomist
Duty
Station: Mbeya

Key responsibilities
  • To enhance agronomical understanding of Farmer Groups and their members.
  • To supervise and support FFS facilitators and CFs in the preparation of PO agronomical work plans.
  • Conduct monthly feedback meetings with CFs, LFs and FFS facilitators.
  • To monitor the progress and improvements of coffee demonstration plots in the assigned areas.
  • To enhance maintenance and supervision of the improved coffee nurseries.
  • To coordinate the collection of all demonstration plots and nursery records for M&E purposes.
  • To participate in survey data collection and support external consultants in monitoring activities.
  • Training of GAP for QEP adopters to POs and selected AMCOS.
  • Facilitate farmer field day and regular field days.
  • To manage all Agronomical activities of the program in collaboration with the Team Coordinator – Agronomy and climate.
  • To enhance the farmer-to-farmer extension system by training AMCOS LCFs, CFs, and FFS Facilitators on agronomical practices and conservation agriculture technical trainings.
  • Backstop and supervise planning, implementation and reporting of agronomy and conservation agriculture activities conducted by AMCOSLFs, FFSFs and CFs at AMCOSs and POs level.
  • To monitor the performance of FFSFs on regular basis and submit their reports timely for the M&E updated.
  • To facilitate AG feedback meeting for FFSFs and CFs.
  • To supervise and monitor the performance of Assistance agronomist as instructed by the Team Coordinator.
  • Conduct coffee and shade tree nursery establishment and management trainings.
  • Supervise the distribution of nursery inputs for supported nurseries and records keeping for all nurseries.
  • Backstop seed sowing and seedling potting.
  • Assist in marketing activities of supported nursery in your area.
  • Conduct nursery assessment to all nurseries.
  • Support the day-to-day implementation of c&c Activities.
  • Dissemination of knowledge generated under coffee&climate innovation via the coffee&climate toolbox.
  • To monitor the progress and improvements of coffee and climate demonstration plots in the assigned areas.
  • To participate in developing and establish trial plots sites, data collections, monitor the progress and report as directed by the supervisor.
  • Facilitate the distribution and planting of the tree’s seedlings to the identified areas
  • Monitor and supervise the implementation of the coffee and climate activities.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the agreed community adaptation plans at the landscape level.
  • Facilitate the Local Expert Committee meetings and to facilitate exchange and learnings on various climate change adaptation tools and technologies.
  • Facilitate exchange, learnings, and cooperation with climate smart agricultural programs in Tanzania.
  • Adapt relevant training and information materials.
  • Report to the Agronomy Team Leader in a timely and efficient manner on a weekly and monthly basis and additionally as required.
  • Prepare and share quarter targets as discussed by Agronomy Team Leader.
  • Prepare monthly and weekly work plans, reports, and quality checks of collected and provided data.
  • Monitoring and compiling field reports.
  • Participate in survey data collection and support external consultants in monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate the collection of all demo plots and nursery records for M&E purposes.
  • Adopt approaches and methodologies that are gender sensitive and promote gender equality.

  • Assist in cross checking attendance forms to ensure they are properly filled by Assistant Agronomists.
  • Supervise the distribution of demonstration inputs and keep annual records for all demonstration inputs and recipients.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Agronomist
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in agronomy related field. Experience in working with donor funded projects.
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel spreadsheets, word processing, and electronic mail along with data entry experience). Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.

Position
: Producer Organization Trainer
Duty Station: Mbeya

Purpose of Position

To organize/strengthen multi-tier farmer organisation and build their capacity to manage their activities in relation to sustainable coffee production and marketing in a participatory and business-minded way.


Key responsibilities

  • To sensitize, mobilize and organize farming households into farmer groups through the establishment of Producer Organizations (POs) and (AMCOS) in collaboration with the OD/G&Y Coordinator for Organizational Development
  • To train farmers and farmer group representatives on organizational development, managerial skills, business and indentureship skills, group dynamics, record keeping, work planning, Cooperative development knowledge, effective activity implementation and monitoring based on the defined training curricular.
  • To monitor and assess the growth, performance and organizational development of POs, AMCOS and other established structures i.e. Councils, Committees and clusters using provided tools and report to the Management in the appropriate format.
  • To facilitate PO and AMCOS registration.
  • Facilitate linkages between farmer organizations and potential partners e.g. financial institutions and input suppliers.
  • To facilitate AMCOS monthly planning and general meetings
  • To Facilitate the establishment of codes of conduct at AMCOS and PO level and ensure its implementation.
  • To cooperate closely with the AMCOSs on marketing and group mobilization activities.
  • To participate in survey data collection and support external consultants in monitoring activities.
  • To facilitate AMCOS monitoring committees’ establishments and operations
  • To facilitate and encourage AMCOSs and POs that they collect membership fees to sustain their operations.
  • To ensure AMCOS and PO leaders are leading their organizations with reference to the objectives for their formation as stipulated in their constitutions and they have a written plan for achievement and are holding regular meetings to report the achievements in reverence to the AMCOS formation to their members.

  • As a consultant to the farmer organizations, you will be required to assist them in planning, budgeting, operations management, problem solving, etc. The POT does not take decisions or act on behalf of the group; as a consultant she/he must assist the groups in making and implementing their own decisions.
  • To facilitate the selection of Farmer Promoters (FPs)and Lead Farmer Promoters at PO and AMCOS level and keep the M&E team updated on any changes in the structure including function holders.
  • To enhance the Farmer-to-Farmer extension by training FPs and LFPs on organizational development, business skills, facilitation, and Cooperative development knowledge.
  • Backstop and supervise planning, implementation and reporting of OD activities conducted by FPs and LFPs at PO and AMCOS level.
  • To monitor the performance of FPs and LFPs on regular basis, submit their activity reports to OD/G&Y Coordinator and FOM and keep the M&E updated.
  • To facilitate LFPs and FPs monthly / quarterly meetings at AMCOS level in order to ensure the effectiveness of the staff farmer ratio.
  • To adopt approaches and methodologies that are gender sensitive and promote gender equality.
  • To facilitate equitable participation of men and women in all activities of the program and projects in particular in marketing and decision-making processes
  • To promote mainstreaming of gender aspects in farmer group policies and procedures.
  • To promote ideas of gender equality in communications with partners and stakeholders.
  • To ensure gender disaggregated information is collected in cooperation with M&E
  • Strengthen the youth group/s continuously.
  • Provide business skills and entrepreneurship trainings to the youth group.
  • Facilitate service linkages between the youth groups and applicable stakeholders (for example financial institutions, the government, livestock experts etc.)
  • Support in organizing mentoring session among the mentors and the respective youth.
  • Backstop and support youth in implementing successful businesses.
  • Participate in monthly youth meetings.
  • Backstop selected youth on business plan implementation and loan repayment.
  • Support youth in implementing successful businesses.
  • Report occurring challenges related to the Youth project to OD/G&Y Coordinator
  • To prepare and implement training plans based on the training needs and progress of POs, Councils, Committees, Clusters and AMCOS in collaboration with the OD/G&Y Coordinator and the FOM.
  • To prepare weekly work plans, Monthly workplans and reports and quality checks of collected and provided data.
  • To facilitate AMCOS monitoring committees’ establishments and operations
  • To get involved positively in OD team meetings as part of your Job, as many work-related information’s may be provided through OD team meeting and other general meetings that you will be informed about by your OD/G&Y Coordinator or any higher administrative authorities.
  • During the continuation of this Contract the Employee shall not be allowed to receive, offer, or authorize any payment on behalf of the Employer.
  • To carry out any other duties as required by management or OD/G&Y Coordinator for the successful implementation of the project and to always act with honesty and integrity.
  • The POT is not expected in any way to sign or enter in any other Contract of Employment other than this during the duration of his Contract with Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung Africa.

Qualifications and Requirements

Position:
Project Senior Agronomist
Duty Station: Mbeya

Purpose of Position

The expertise to be provided covers strengthening the capacity of smallholder farmers and their organizations to see coffee farming as a business opportunity, enhancing diversification of their farming activities, to effectively respond to changing climatic conditions in a sustainable resilient way, as well as of public and private stakeholders on implementing programs on climate smart agriculture for coffee and food crop production. Within the initiative for coffee&climate HRNS Tanzania as an implementing organization has the mandate to develop approach for systematically addressing climate change at a landscape level and facilitate its roll-out within Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Agronomist. An advanced degree such as master’s will increase an applicant’s chance of getting hired, and probability of a promotion.
  • Minimum of Five (6) years’ experience in agronomy related field. Experience in working with donor funded projects.
  • Experience of managing and coordinating large and complex projects, preferably related to rural development.
  • Experience of interacting with stakeholders, including senior government officials, regional and local authorities, consultants, NGOs, and communities.
  • Excellent team leader and team player, strong interpersonal and soft skills
  • Fluent in English language, oral and written.
