Ahly moved to the brink of a place at the last four after beating Ivorian side, Sewe Sport 1-0 in their day four Group B clash on Saturday in Cairo.

Back from injury midfielder, Walid Soliman scored the only goal early in the first half to power his side to victory at the expense of the visitors, who finished with a man-less, after defender Kouadio Yoboue was sent-off in the dying stages for a second yellow card.

The Egyptian champions, playing their first continental game under new coach Carlos Garrido made their intent clear from the onset but failed to make the most of the opportunities that came their way.

There were some new faces in the hosts line-up such as Mohamed Farouk, roped in from Arab Contractors and midfielder Hossam Ghaly, who rejoined the ‘Red Devils' after a stint with Belgian side, Lierse, whilst Soliman was playing his first game in as many months.

Just after four minutes, the homers earned themselves a penalty after Farouk was brought down by his marker in the vital area. The resultant penalty was nicely converted by Soliman, for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.

With Ghaly and Hossam Ashour supplying the attack which revolved around Amr Gamal and Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet' Hassan with long balls, Ahly had the better of the exchanges whilst the Ivorians gradually warmed themselves into the game.

On 13 minutes, Sabri El Sayed, during one of his raids upfront laid a perfect cross to Soliman, who headed wide with only Sewe Sport goalie Guelassiognon Gbohouo to beat.

The Ivorians also had their share but failed to hit target to shot themselves into the game.

There second half was equally competitive with both sides coming close a couple of times to finding the back of the net.

Sewe Sport forward, Roger Assale was unlucky to see his low effort miss target narrowly whilst Emad Moteab also fumbled at the other end.

On the stroke of full time, the Ivorians were dealt a blow after Yoboue was given the marching off orders after a second bookable offence, but Ahly could barely capitalize on the numerical advantage as the referee signaled for the end of proceedings minutes later.

Ahly now have eight points, Etoile du Sahel follows with five points, with Zambia's Nkana and Sewe Sport in that order on four and three points.
