I have written a "couple" of letters to some human rights group and a couple of foreign envoys suggesting to them that their respective countries should offer political asylum to Tanzanian Albinos who are living under constant fear of being mutilated and even being killed because some people believe that Albinos body part can be used in magic portion that would bring luck in businesses and other areas.
I have argued that, If these countries were to offer political asylum some of the Albinos who have no where else to go and who know that their government can not guarantee their security will take up the offer and move to another country where such threats are nonexistent.
The following were my major reasoning for such a suggestion:
a. The Chama cha Mapinduzi governmnet under President Kikwete's has miserably and demonstratively failed to stop the killings of Albinos since it got into power over three years ago. The killings have continued sporadically and with such impunity.
b. The security apparatus and law enforcement agencies of the country are not able to carry out a systematic, professional, and successful operation to collect intelligence, investigate, arrests and prosecute to the extent of the law all people who are accused of financing, carrying out, or profiteering from this abominable acts of violence.
c. The call by the Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda about fortnight ago for people to administer mob justice by carring out summary executions of people accused of killing albino is a clear indication and verifiable proof of government inability to curb the killings of Tanzanians with albinism a medical conditions that can be found in almost all species of the animal kingdom.
d. The western powers have already in the past and continue to do so, provided political asylum to minority groups which have been subjected to discrimination, torture or even killings. Such groups included racially minorities, transgender people, gay, religious minority, women fleeing FGM etc.
I believe that Albinos are a very tiny minority in the country and their conditions even more immutable and in a sense more recognizable than other conditions and hence deserve such protection which can not be guaranteed in their own country.
I hope the letters will be responded promptly by these government creating the conditions for prompt and scheduled movement of Albino to places where they will be safe from persecution.

NB: I have not send these letters out yet, but depending on what happens tomorrow in the National Assembly nitaituma kesho. Nakubali masahihisho ya lugha, mawazo, na mpangilio wa fikra.
