It has been explained that the increase in young people facing difficult environments in society is caused by some parents and guardians with low incomes, thus failing to properly raise their children due to their entrenched mindset of living materialistic lives while the youth have great potential to uplift their families economically through the land resources they possess in rural areas.

The root cause of young people facing difficult environments is found within families, with the main reason being families losing hope and considering embracing the burden of poverty as their right to live impoverished lives, despite having fertile land for agriculture, which is unjust.

Normally, land is a significant capital asset compared to any other wealth, and having land enables significant and rapid development unlike having money without land.

"Understand that money is not everything; land is more than money because even the wealthy person must seek someone with land to engage in farming or investment activities. Therefore, having a lot of money alone is not sufficient; one must seek someone with land since land is a capital asset. There is no reason for young people from families with land to live in poverty, especially in these times when the value of land is high."

Alfayo Mwalongo, a student specializing in entrepreneurship and practical skills, and a trainer of entrepreneurship and practical skills at Iringa University, stated this today at the Orphanage Hall during the 10-day entrepreneurship training for 140 young people from three villages of Mdabulo, Ihanu, and Luhunga in Mufindi district, Iringa region, under the sponsorship of the Youth Agency Mufindi (YAM) project.

He said that these young people come from over 15 villages in these three wards, and through this training, they will become catalysts for other youth and families to not lose hope due to economic hardship.

Mwalongo said that Mufindi district has a good economy compared to some other districts in the country because the cash crops grown in the district's land are the only opportunity for citizens to overcome economic challenges if they utilize it properly.

However, for the young people in the YAM project, many of whom had lost hope in life due to the poor living conditions in their families, after the training, they will be different from their peers who have not benefited from the project. The training will empower them to seize the opportunities surrounding the land.

He mentioned that many young people have been losing hope in life due to the difficulty of life, thinking that the lack of financial capital is the only obstacle to running their lives, forgetting that money is not the only capital but land is a reliable asset in life.

Therefore, he said that through this training, they will be able to identify the significant opportunities around them and how to utilize them towards economic success and overcome the fixed mindset to enable them to be self-reliant.

"These training sessions have empowered them to recognize the significant opportunities surrounding them, which they couldn't identify before, as they have been given the ability to recognize their resources and how to obtain them from the environment around them. Through these training sessions, they will be catalysts in their families."

Mwalongo said that the YAM project has been a great help to these young people who used to live amidst opportunities while their lives continued to be poor despite living in a land-rich environment.

He urged society to refrain from discouraging young people from living life due to the poverty of their parents, as poverty is a contagious disease that can affect the entire family, and being born into a poor family is not a reason for everyone to be poor in the family. By utilizing the available land resources, one can be born into a poor family but become extremely wealthy.

Edina Mwagala, a resident of Ikanga village in Mdabulo ward, is one of the beneficiaries of these training sessions. She said that when she was selected for the free training, she did not realize that she would have a broad perspective and dream of starting a journey towards economic empowerment through the opportunities around her.
