Alhajji Mataka alisema hana taarifa kamili kwa kuwa alikuwa likizo na kuelekeza apigiwe meneja operesheni, Mark Manji, ambaye alisema tatizo ni uwanja wa ndege wa Comoro kutokuwa na mafuta.

“Wanatudaganya kwamba Comoro hakuna mafuta ya ndege lakini ni uongo kwa sababu mimi nimepiga simu kwa rafiki yangu ambaye anafanya kazi huko na ameniambia mafuta yako ila inasemekana ATCL inadaiwa zaidi ya Euro 30 milioni (Euro moja ni sawa na Sh1,480 za Tanzania) na kampuni ya mafuta,” alisema Ridhwan.

Mbinu za kudanganya za mwaka 47 ATCL bado mnazo mpaka leo?
Desemba mwaka jana zaidi ya mahujaji 1000 walikwama kwa zaidi siku 12 kwenye uwanja wa ndege wa Dar es salaam kutokana na ndege ya ATCLshirika la ndege la Tanzania (ATCL) kushindwa kuruka kutokana hitilafu za kiufundi.

Unajua kuna kitu kwenye airline industry wamekuwa wanafanya especially kwa hizi regional airlines, kama destination haina fuel supply, then wanaacha mizigo kadhaa (au yote), na wanabeba extra fuel for return leg (with offcourse enough fuel for a diversion airports as per norm) kisha wanapeleka abiria pekee.... hii imezoeleka zaidi kwenye landlocked countries in Africa especially to airports such as Lubumbashi in DRC, South Sudan, Chad etc.... Huko nimeona Kenya Airways wakitumia mpango huu pia Ethiopian

ATCL planes' lease about to expire

DOMESTIC schedules of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) are likely to be seriously disrupted next week when the airline’s two leased Boeing 737 aircraft go abroad for mandatory intensive maintenance.

Sources told the ‘Daily News’ yesterday that the planes were going for the mandatory ‘check C’ because leasing contracts of one of them expire in December and the other in January. The leasing contracts demand that the plane should undergo a return check C which takes between four and eight weeks at a maintenance base selected by the owner of the aircraft.

This means, the schedules of ATCL would remain unstable for several months until current plans to retain the leased Boeing whose contract expire in January succeed and joins the skeleton fleet after the check C.

If ATCL’s efforts to retain the plane whose contract expires in January for one year succeed, it will then go for an ordinary ‘check C’ which is less intensive than the ‘return check C’, meaning that costs would be less.

“Costs of ‘return check C’ and ordinary ‘check C’ range between 800,000 US dollars (920m/-) and 1.5 m US dollars (1.7bn/-) depending on a number of factors including corrosion and this applies on the former check,” sources said.

The sources said that the national flag carrier would be left with two short range Dash 8 aircrafts for domestic routes and a leased Air Bus for regional flights when the two Boeing 737 leave.

The Boeing 737 which lost one of its two engines after sucking an object when it was preparing to take off at Mwanza Airport early last month was still grounded.

A few weeks ago, ATCL experienced similar disruptions when three of its planes developed technical problems and they were therefore grounded for a couple of days.

Pinda: ATCL privatisation plans in advanced stage

The government has admitted that Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) is in a pathetic state and its operations would soon be privatised to a China firm.

The Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda, told the National Assembly during the MPs direct questions to the Premier session here yesterday that the process to privatise the airliner was at a very advanced stage and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the project had already been signed.

Pinda was responding to a question by Dr Raphael Chegeni (Busega - CCM), who had wanted to know efforts taken by the government to rescue the ailing state-owned air carrier.

The MP claimed that the company was in a very poor state financially, failing even to re-fuel its planes.

In his response, Pinda said ?We need to see the problem in a broader perspective. The Airline had fuel debts from South African Airways and the government managed to settle them. We are working out for a sustainable solution.``

Meanwhile, the government has promised to table a bill on personal disabilities that would see the country ratify the convention for the same in the coming parliamentary session.

Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda told the Parliament yesterday while responding to a question by Zuleikha Yunus Haji (Special Seats - CCM), who had wanted to know when the government would ratify the convention on persons with disabilities.

In his response, Pinda said the government would table the bill in the next session and ensure that MPs endorsed it before the end of the session.

The national flag carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited, is literally broke, and is so heavily indebted to its key suppliers that it is now often forced to cancel its scheduled flights, it has been learnt. According to impeccable sources, ATCL is forced to buy aviation fuel from BP Tanzania with spot cash or stay grounded, all because it is currently owing the firm over $3m (3.6bn/-) in outstanding fuel bills.

The airline’s fuel debt started accumulating during the first quarter of this year, and was flying on borrowed fuel until a ‘few weeks ago’ when BP plugged off its credit facilities. Contacted for comment, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Mr Omari Chambo, said in a curt retort: “The government is working on the issue … we are working on this matter …let us stop there.”

He was reacting to reports of a possible arrangement under which ATCL would get fuel from an oil marketing company on condition that the government guaranteed the deal. The debt-ridden national airline buys aviation fuel with cash collected from its daily sales of tickets and freight charges, both now unreliable sources because of the airline’s frequent flight cancellations.

According to the sources, the airline has entered what industry watchers call a deadly cycle: every time the sales are poor, ATCL fails to operate altogether or delays its flights – and the travellers suffer in the end. The sources also say ATCL at times carries ‘very few’ passengers because of its unreliable flights, costing the airline even more dearly.

“In a number of occasions, an aircraft is available (filled with fuel enough to operate Dar/KIA/DAR) but you find only 10 passengers turning up … instead of 50 … and may be 15 on the return leg,” the sources add. Last Saturday and Sunday, the sources revealed that ATCL failed to operate its Dar es Salaam-Entebbe flight – simply on account of huge operating costs. The daily flight to Johannesburg is unreliable for similar reasons.

Najua hawajapewa hata senti moja na serikali lakini katika akili zao timamu wakaenda kununua madege hayo na kukodisha na kuanzisha safari mpya na kupeleka marubani kwenda kusoma nje, na kuagiza marubani kutoka Uingereza na Ufaransa n.k sasa hizo fedha wanazoanzishia miradi na kutumia namna hiyo zimetoka sayari gani?
 
This Airline is going to die, the sooner we realize this the better for all of us.
The Airline industry is highly competitive, and the margins are very low, that together with our highly inefficient government will either cause the end of ATCL or it will be constantly in need of tax payer money.
