Kenya has received over six nominations With more than six Kenyans having been nominated for the prestigious continental awards, expectations are high that local film makers will pull yet another first and beat last years record. In 2013, Maureen Koech brought home the AMVCA Best Supporting Actress in a Drama award for her role in Lies that Bind.
Local television series XYZ show also scooped the Best Television Series category. Among those nominated this year are Valerie Kimani (Best Supporting Actress for her role in Higher Learning), Ian Mbugua (Best Supporting Actor for his role in House of Lungula), David Mulwa (Best Supporting Actor for his role in Higher Learning), Dorothy and Oyunga Papa (Best Online Video for the Next Big Host), Edwin Maina (Best Indigenous Language Movie for Nairobi Half Life) and Veronica Waceke (Best Actress in a Drama for Higher Learning).
Also nominated for her skill in costume design for the popular TV drama, Sumu la Penzi, is Catherine Kabugi, the Kenyan dancer who holds the Guinness world record in Limbo dancing.
