Peace Desk Officer, Ref. No. PDO/Y/08/07
The Peace Desk Officer will be based in Yirol and shall be responsible for coordinating and overseeing operational plans of the Sudan Peace and Capacity Building Project that covers both Yirol and Bor project. He/she will work to improve the proper operations, management and improvement of the Peace and Capacity Building activities. The incumbent will report directly to the Project Coordinator, while working closely on a daily basis in collaboration with the Deputy Project Coordinators and other sectors of LWF. The incumbent will plan and divide his/her time well between the Yirol and Bor project.
Key Points of Communication: Project Coordinator, Deputy Project Coordinators and the other LWF Sudan Project Officers both in Yirol and Bor.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Work in close collaboration with the Deputy Project Coordinators and other staff in the overall planning, management and development of the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution activities in the LWF/DWS Sudan project.
2.Provide overall team leadership for the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution staff and conduct half yearly community development staff appraisals.
3.Liaise with peace committee members, community leaders, local county authorities and other stakeholders to identify Peace Building and Conflict Resolution community concerns and together develop an action plan in coordination and collaboration with other stakeholders.
4.Work with the communities to formulate and develop rights based proposals and strategies that will promote Peaceful coexistence in the project area and the neighboring communities.
5.Design innovative ways of addressing the conflicts between different clans (tribes) in order to enhance peaceful coexistence amongst them.
6.Work with communities to identify community training needs in Peace and Conflict Resolution and plan and facilitate relevant training.
7.Design and implement relevant and cost effective peace education training for the staff and peace committee members.
8.Coordinate, strengthen and promote the existing community arbitration systems in the community and ensure the participation of women and youth in conflict resolution and peace building.
9.Work closely with the local authority and community members to establish, strengthen and empower community based peace committees in conflict resolution and peace building.
10.Conduct community awareness sessions on Peace and Conflict Resolution.
11.Establish a budget monitoring system for Peace Building and Conflict Resolution activities to ensure cost effective and efficient implementation of the project.
12.Write timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual, and feature reports for the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution project based on actual field activities.
13.Carry out regular, re-planning, monitoring and evaluation of Peace Building and Conflict Resolution activities.

Personal Specifications and Qualifications:
Degree qualification in sociology - development studies, public policy, conflict resolution, or similar fields

Excellent verbal, writing and communication skills.
