What the World Got Wrong in Côte D'Ivoire

GLN, hiyo ni ngumu sana kuwa implemented taking into account marais wenyewe wa Africa wanaingia madarakani in the ways of Quattara, Kagame, Museveni, JK etc ... hivi unadani kwa akili yako US wakitaka jambo fulani liwe voted through AU as per their interest then wao watapinga??

Lakini, If you believe that the Northern half of your own country, then whole of West-Africa, then Africa and then the whole world is your enemy, then, the Gbagbo camp is home. Not my problem. There will be elections in 5 years and if Ouattara does not deliver he will be voted out.....

You intimidate your foreign journalist and you want them to write positively about you? How does that work?.. You summon all foreign Journalists to your state house for a press conference and what you do is broadcast their faces on prime time TV calling them enemies of the state? You incite your misguided youths to attack their houses and you expect them to report favourably about you? Even Gadaffi knows how to handle the media!..Not the Gbagbo camp. 80% of the Journalists for the media houses you mention above happen to be local Ivorians who could not report due to fear of reprisals. The media houses had to ship in new journalists regularly to be the "face" of their local colleagues who risked death from from the Gbagbo camp.
And no Madabwada, I did not agree with BBC reporting much, they were too neutral and failed to properly address the real atrocities commited by the Gbagbo camp! Incidentally, both the BBC and France24 correspondents had to flee the country a while back despite their "Neutral" reporting.....

GLN, Kama Africa moja iliwashinda Nyerere, Nasa, Nkrumah, Kaunda etc sidhani sarafu moja itawezekana kwa Mugabe, Museveni, Kibaki, Gbagbo, Kabila, Ghadaffi etc.

We Africans do not value ourselves. Our leaders do not give a damn about the wellbeing of their people-talk of Arusha, Nyamongo, Tabora killings by police. Look at what is happening to the opposition in Uganda. Talk of dubious deals (mining, oil sectors) that our governments sign with imperialist companies, who benefits? How are the imperialists involved in this? Every time our leaders are cornered, they start talking about neocolonialism and imperialism.

Some want us to sympathize with Gaddaffi simply because he is African-he is ours, the same leader who stashed a whopping 400bn USD,let alone other properties and those of his children! I mean, the guy is in his sunset days, why keep all that money (and worse enough,in a foreign imperialistic land)? How come the neocolonialists/imperialists 'care' more about us(the people of Africa, in terms of financial aid, military intervention where there are killings) than does our fellow elected Africans?

Well said Ngondya!
Ghadafi our own Africa leader has invested 400Bn in America and Europe. Andrew Chenge the then state attorney has an account in Jersey; Mobutu swindled the DRC money to Belgium. Omar Diko who was energy minister during Shagari's government left with 9 millions dollar (in 1980).
Gbagbo was assured that if he quits, his assert worth of billions will be protected under Gbagbo-AU cease fire agreement. Ironically the same person is deceiving the world that he wants to protect the Ivorian resources for the so called 1960 agreement. We don't talk about these rather trying to camouflage under the umbrella of western interference.

Think about this, for five decades consecutive our budget depends on donors at 40% mark. According to CAG report and others, money lost unaccounted for is worth 2trilion shs. Money went to dubious projects worth another trillion. Rampant tax exemptions, ghost workers, shoddy projects and extravagance worth another trillion.

Priority: Instead of investing into agriculture we ventured in luxurious 4 by 4 Land cruisers for Members of Parliament. Arguably this is a loan, however where is the loan for peasants? It is inconceivable that an MP who served the last 5 years is entitled to have another Land cruiser, at the same time his or her constituent is strugling with Land Rover bought by Nyerere admin in 1987.
The question, where is western interference in situation like ours!!

40 yrs ago we were in the same category with Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia; today we travel all the way to Pyong yang to ask for rice! The basins like Usangu, Rufiji, moshi and shinyanga are conduceive for agriculture but remain unattended perhaps to provide heaven for snakes and mongoose.
50 yrs we can't feed ourselves still we expect somebody to respect us! And we are pushing to the UN reform to give us a veto power! White elephant!
Botswana and Nigeria are the role model for better and for worse.
Our problem in Africa is not western interference rather egoism, villain, poor management and myopic leaders.

...................Our problem in Africa is not western interference rather egoism, villain, poor management and myopic leaders..............

Mzee, you hit the nail on the head...
