Two people have been killed and two others injured in a fatal road crash involving three vehicles along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luweero District.
The crash occurred at about 1:30am on Saturday at Naluvule and involved a white Fuso truck, registration number UBA 879L; a red Sino truck, registration number UBJ 984L, which was loaded with sand; and a red Mercedes Actros, registration number CGO 6435AC/07.
Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twineamazima said preliminary investigations indicate that the Fuso truck, which was travelling from Kampala towards Luweero, rammed into the broken-down Mercedes Actros.
“It is alleged that the Fuso mounted the broken-down Mercedes Actros and fatally struck its passenger,” Twineamazima said.
He added that the oncoming Sino truck was forced to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.
“Strong lights from the oncoming Sino truck contributed to the collision. To avoid a head-on collision, the Sino truck diverted off the road and overturned,” he said.
