Case Filed Against IGP, DPP, and ZCO Demanding Mwambe Be Granted Bail or Charged in Court. Hearing Set for December 15
Advocate Hekima Mwasipu has filed an urgent application at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camilius Wambura, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sylvester Mwakitalu, and the Zonal Crimes Officer (ZCO) for Dar es Salaam Special Zone, Faustine Mafwele. The application demands that his client, Godfrey Mwambe, be released immediately or brought before a court. Mwasipu claims that Mwambe, a former Minister of Industry and Trade and later Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Investment), was arrested and detained unlawfully since December 7 at the Kigamboni Police Station without bail or being charged in court, despite facing allegations of sedition, which is a bailable offense.
According to the application for case number 289778/2025, when Mwambe's family took food to the station, they were informed that he was no longer there, with no official information about his whereabouts provided. Advocate Mwasipu told the court that these actions by the Police Force constitute a violation of the applicant's fundamental rights and requested that the application be heard under a certificate of urgency to prevent further violations.
Earlier, reports circulated on social media claiming that Mwambe had been arrested and detained for several days in the Kigamboni area of Dar es Salaam, while being interrogated over allegations concerning the relationship between Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi and the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) regarding inciting public hatred against the Government.
The case is scheduled for a hearing on December 15 at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court.
Citizens' Opinions:
The majority of citizens have continued to criticize the Police Force's performance for failing to follow the law, despite directives from the Minister of Home Affairs requiring it to do so. They stated that despite frequent allegations linking IGP Wambura and other Police leaders to brutal incidents against civilians, they remain in their positions without accountability or investigation. Meanwhile, abductions continue, and citizens live in great fear.
Additionally, others stated that if the reasons for his arrest are indeed related to the TEC, then the Government is gravely mistaken and needs to reflect, as they are inciting religious hatred and punishing innocent people. Some said that these measures taken against those who take a stance different from the Government are only increasing public anger rather than solving the problem.
Campaign to Defend Artists Restarts Online. Majizzo Steps Up to Apologize on Their Behalf; Fans Refuse
After a long period of silence and division between artists and their fans—a situation that emerged following the 2025 general election—a new wave has begun on social media. Artists who were sidelined mainly by their fans for what was described as their silence while the Government oppressed citizens and during recent events, are now seeing people emerge to defend them, including prominent figures in the country.
One of the people sparking a huge debate online is the Director of EFM and TVE stations, Francis Ciza (Majizzo), who stepped forward to ask fans to forgive artists for statements that may have offended them. He explained that boycotting artists' work has affected many of them economically and psychologically, so it is important for fans to look at the industry as a whole and recognize that artists remain part of the society that relies on them to facilitate their work. Majizzo also emphasized that political differences should not be a reason to destroy the future of the entertainment sector, and he asked Tanzanians to restore artists to their position so the industry can continue to grow.
Citizens' Opinions:
Many citizens, including artists such as Webiro Wassira (Wakazi) and Joseph Mbilinyi (Sugu)—who is also a member of the CHADEMA Central Committee and a former MP for Mbeya Urban—have disagreed with Majizzo. They argue he has no legitimacy to speak for artists because he uses his radio and TV stations, especially via social media, to lean toward CCM and the Government, which citizens criticize for human rights violations. They also criticized him for not addressing the core reason citizens boycotted artists' work: the artists' silence on the massive oppression committed by the Government against citizens. In contrast, those artists chose the side of CCM and the Government.
Others said that, since those artists are alive and can see everything happening, if they want forgiveness, they should come forward publicly and apologize sincerely. Otherwise, it isn't very sensible, as it appears they care only about the money they make, not about the impact they have on society.
Furthermore, some stated they would continue to boycott the artists and their work because, even after Majizzo stepped forward to apologize, some artists appeared on those same networks mocking citizens, implying that even if the public is angry now, they have no power to stop listening to their work. They added that this move was likely intended to allow artists to organize year-end festivals as usual, disregarding that many Tanzanians are still in mourning, which makes them feel even more strongly that the artists do not deserve forgiveness.
CHADEMA: We Want a National Transitional Government, Samia Has No Legitimacy to be President of Tanzania
The Party for Democracy and Progress (CHADEMA) has announced its stance, stating that the October 29 election was null and void and was not conducted lawfully due to gross violations of the law, human rights, and democratic principles. CHADEMA demands that all results be nullified and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be disbanded, as it failed to prove its independence and credibility in supervising a democratic election.
The statement also referred to Samia Suluhu as an illegitimate ruler, claiming she did not receive the people's consent and that her Government relies on force and oppression. CHADEMA described the existence of gross human rights violations before, during, and after the election. It also accused the Government and Security Organs of being directly involved in mass killings, abductions, torture, and disappearances of civilians, while demanding an independent international investigation into these events.
CHADEMA wants the formation of a Transitional Government not led by Samia Suluhu to be supervised by international institutions such as the UN, AU, and SADC.
Additionally, the party demanded accountability for all those alleged to be involved in human rights violations, including leaders of the Defense and Security Organs. It emphasized major reforms in those organs as well as compensation for families who lost loved ones and for the injured. CHADEMA supports the process of obtaining a New Constitution and the efforts of the youth (Gen Z) and all groups demanding justice, including religious leaders and activists.
Citizens' Opinion:
Many citizens supported CHADEMA's statement, explaining that they do not recognize President Samia's Government and continue to accuse it of killing civilians during the election, and suppressing citizens' voices, especially the Security Organs blocking demonstrations planned for December 9, 2025.
Others continued to question the Government's silence regarding the bodies of their loved ones killed during the election, saying they need to conduct dignified burials for their loved ones, as is the custom in the country.
Jenista Mhagama, MP for Peramiho and Former Minister of Health in the Previous Administration, Dies
The MP for Peramiho, Jenista Joachim Mhagama, passed away this morning after collapsing suddenly and being taken to the Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, where she was later confirmed dead. Her body has been taken to Benjamin Mkapa Hospital for funeral arrangements and procedures.
Mhagama (58) served in the Tanzanian Government in various phases. Before the new Government was formed, she was the Minister of Health, appointed after Ummy Mwalimu's appointment was revoked.
Citizens' Opinions:
In an unusual turn of events, many citizens have celebrated the news, something that seems to be becoming common when CCM leaders or supporters pass away. Additionally, others repeated the statement made by President Samia during Ali Kibao's funeral, "Death is Death," telling people to stop causing alarm.
Some felt her death was contributed to by stress due to failing to secure a position in the Cabinet of the current Government, despite being at the forefront of campaigning for Samia when she was President and even during the 2025 Election campaigns.
Prime Minister: Public Officials' Assets to be Investigated, One Must Fear Public Property
The Prime Minister of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba, has directed the Public Leaders' Ethics Secretariat to collaborate with the PCCB (Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau) to establish a special unit to investigate public officials' assets, starting with those showing indicators of corruption, to ensure proper use of public funds and accountability according to the law. He added that every leader must complete a declaration of assets and liabilities, and the secretariat should then investigate by comparing that information with actual income.
Speaking in Dodoma, Mwigulu said the Government continues to strengthen ethics among public servants amid existing challenges, noting that ethics cannot be 100% perfect and must be reviewed frequently. He emphasized that a person must fear public property, saying that he who does not want personal discipline will be forced by the Government to fear touching it.
Citizens' Opinions:
Many viewed the Prime Minister's directive as theatrics used to make the public believe that current leaders hate corruption, fight for good governance, and want accountability, while in reality, the situation is not so. They cited Mwigulu's statement that 'the Government will force those without personal discipline regarding public property,' questioning why they allow people who lack discipline and misuse public funds to remain in power when there are many honest and capable people to hold those positions.
Others said that President Samia, in the previous phase, had already allowed corruption to continue when she told leaders, "They should eat according to the length of their rope," suggesting that nothing would change if the exact corrupt figures from the previous phase were still leading now!
Some said if they truly wanted to strengthen accountability for public servants, they would start by holding accountable all those involved in the killing of civilians during the election; anything else is deceiving the citizens.
Many questioned what the ethics authorities and PCCB usually oversee until leaders commit corruption, expressing frustration at how broken enforcement and accountability systems continue to protect leaders while citizens are oppressed.
