Simba in mining sector review team

PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has added the former minister for industry and trade, Iddi Simba, to the mining sector review committee chaired by retired judge Mark Bomani.
A State House statement issued in Dasr es Salaam yesterday said Simbas inclusion brings the number of committee members to 12.
Simba, a board member of Media Solutions Limited - publishers of THISDAY and KULIKONI newspapers - brings much experience to the committee.
The retired politician and business leader currently also serves as an advisor to the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC).
Other committee members appointed by the president on Tuesday are legislators John Cheyo (Bariadi East-UDP), Zitto Kabwe (Kigoma North-CHADEMA), Dr Harrison Mwakyembe (Kyela-CCM) and Ezekiel Maige (Msalala-CCM).
Also in the team are Peter Machunde from the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), David Tarimo from PriceWaterHouse Coopers, and Ms Maria Kejo of the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
Also Ms Salome Makange from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Mugisha Kamugisha of the Ministry of Finance, and Edward Kihundwa from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development.
The committees terms of reference include to review mining contracts and other key documents related to the sector, evaluate the taxation system for the sector, and review the government�s present regulatory system on mining.
The committee will also look into the rights and responsibilities of the government and private investors respectively in mining sector issues, hold talks with the Chamber of Mines and other stakeholders, and make relevant recommendations to the government.
The committee has been given three months to conclude its work.
