Like sheep in wolves skin that smile at you at face value while hitting you when you're not looking. That's life, because no matter how good a person you are, no matter how charmingly and charismatically you happen to woo crowds, you will always come across those who dislike or just hate you. Nevertheless, survival in social circles dictates that we learn to pretend at times, laugh at a dry joke or just yell at the bartender for bad service.Take your pick, the swindler or the monster.

As dire as circumstances can be, these realities of life creep up at the big stage,in diplomatic circles where the decisions that influence our daily lives are made. Smile at me today while offering a blend of sugar and salt and as soon as the aroma of sugar dazzles my longue, the pungent taste of salt pierces every blood vessel. Too bad, I didn't get caught, let's try again next time. A tit for tat exchange eventually leading to a vicious cycle of more pleasantries before more mischievous behaviour.

A world where dining etiquette and charm win and those who take the effort to do the real groundwork of building lasting relationships are left for dead in the cold. Some are well known for threats to initiate a form of intimacy that is likened by the unsuspecting eye to a match made in heaven.

“Do not be the first to throw the stone no matter your predicament”, the bigwigs hail. Even a third world country's feeble attempt at an onslaught is always deemed reckless and the whistle-blowers are always brought to “justice”.

So yes, if the idea of having relations with virtually every country in the world doesn't get you out of bed in the morning then the Diversity visa program stealing genes from Fiji and Guatemala should give you a heart attack.

I rest my case
