Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nakanya Jatiko has declined to recuse herself from lawyer Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka’s case, ruling that his claims did not establish a real possibility of bias.

Mabirizi had cited criminal complaints he filed against the magistrate, an alleged remark about his publications and previous courtroom directions involving people he had introduced as law students and assistants.

The magistrate cautioned against using complaints as a means of removing judicial officers.

Mabirizi faces four counts under the Computer Misuse Act over alleged social media posts targeting Chief Justice Flavian Zeija and Court of Appeal Judge Musa Ssekaana.
