Knut calls off teachers' strike

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has called off the teachers' strike.


The teachers will return to class with a Sh16.2 billion deal spread out in two phases, as had earlier been agreed between Knut and the government.

"We have assessed the government offer over time and we are satisfied that we have put in place proper mechanisms through engagement... with that in mind, the National Executive Council has now authorised the secretary general to call off the strike," said Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) chairman Wilson Sossion.

He was speaking after a two-hour meeting with Deputy President William Ruto.

The decision to end the 24-day strike was reached just hours after the government ordered all public primary schools closed indefinitely.

The government said measures are in place to ensure Standard 8 pupils sit national examinations.

"The government hereby orders the closure of all public primary schools indefinitely, aware that primary school teachers continue to participate in an illegal and unconstitutional strike having refused to comply with legal directives of the Teachers Service Commission," said Education Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi Wednesday.

All the bravado by the likes of Kaimenyi and Kazungu amounted to nothing.

This is ,,,,,,the only statement that woke up these teachers,,,face the truth and
move away,,,,from their hallucinations.

Together with the salaries of June withheld,,,,,these guys were in a tight corner.

I had supported Kenya's teachers,,but not this time.

Why,,,because i was seeing no difference,,of them,, with the MP's.

Theirs was simply,,trying to hi-jack the Jubilee government and teach
it a lesson,,as mr Sossion said,,,many times.

But i feel pity for mr Sossion,,,you said so many things but,,,umekula
hiyo hiyo matapiko yako.


Mr Sossion,,,,how could you cut a mugumu(fig) tree with a razor blade.
Jubilee is not what you thought.

You have just dug your grave,,you mislead so many teachers
to stick with you,,but what are you going to tell them.

Your miscalculated moves were only to try and corner the Jubilee government.

Why have you,,now,,,accepted what you refused,,,one month ago,,,baada
ya hasara kubwa????

You wanted more than 40 Billion kshs,,but you are accepting only 16 B,,,
which you swore,,,that would only happen over your dead body.

Jubilee government is very different from the previous one,,,led
by drunkards,,,,this is no Kibaki and Railas,,,this is UhuRuto,,,
if you want to be another Alexander the great,,,

You are for a very big surprise,,,,,my friend,,mr Sossion.

Today,,all those who thought that you were a savior,,,are
now up in arms,,against you.

Sossion,,,,now things have turned upside down and that is

Kwa kweli mwnezangu, Sossion still lacks the valor to withstand the heat to champion the teacher's agitation from uhuruto govt, kwa lugha ya kimitaa tunasema aliingia tutu mwilini...
.....wamevunja mgomo baada ya kusikia, waalimu wengine wapya watachukua nafasi zao, kuonyesha wazi Viongozi wa kuppet na Knut walikuwa selfish kila moja akitafuta kuchuma tonge zaidi ya mwingine;
mfianchi where art thou?? nakumbuka ukinieleza kuwa safari ya mamba haikosi kenge...

All solved diligently, halafu sasa hata wale madaktari wakitazama kugoma, they can only dialogue or face justice..kenya has evolved, we no longer operate from the bush

I wonder whether the teachers got anything from this strike. It looks to me like they are going home empty handed. Better the KUPPET guys.

Kama akina Benson Bana, kila leo wako kwenye vikorido vya ikulu ,kujikomba kwa mkulu,sampuli kama hiyo unafikiri kuna jipya italifanya kuwasaidia wenzao,wao waangalia matumbo yao
 
Kaka Kabaridi,pamoja na yote waache wakubaliane ni win win situation ,watoto wa kimasikini wasome kwani ndio waliokuwa wanaumia,lakini unajua pia waalimu walikuwa wanahaki ,na hii ni kutokana na wanasiasa kujipendelea sana wao bila hata aibu,sasa kama wanasiasa wanapata fedha nyingine na hawafanyi kazi yoyote basi nao wengine wataingia kwa mitaa kudai waongezewa fedha ,haiwezkani keki ya taifa iliwe na wasiasa tu,I wish hayo mambo yangetokea hapa TZ,tatizo sisi wa TZ ni waoga kuzidi hata kunguru na hata haki zetu hatujui kudai

Huh, wewe hupata habari kutoka wapi maana kilichojiri ni kinyume kabisa na unachotuonyesha hapa. Kama kuna washindi ni Kazungu na Kaimenyi, makataba waliotia sahihi na Kuppet ndio pekee utakaofuatwa na serikali
But usijali mkuu ,Sossion wako amekuwa Sossioff.

Couple things to note, I have put the whole piece of news up there for people to read na mengine
unayoleta ni yako mwenyewe. They might not have gotten what they wanted but at least hawakutoka
bure.

Secondly my quoting the likes of Kazungu and Kaimenyi was directed at their threat to fire the teachers and hire
new ones. Did that happen?...that is what I call bravado...debe shinda haliachi kutika...ndio viongozi wenu hao!
 


This is what they had in mind when they said they will fire the teachers and hire new ones!

Two things, whatever they got out of the strike had been got a week prior to the calling off the strike negotiated between the government and a rival union but they refused to resume teaching.
Secondly the threat to fire teachers was so real this time round but the teachers noted with speed the minute the education minister declared the schools closed and headed straight to Ruto's office where they had to wait for two hours for he was even out of town. Had they waited just a little bit longer you would be swallowing your words here.
