What pissed me off the most during my time in Kenya were the occasional "my country is better than yours" arguments. Otherwise Kenyans are some of the most welcoming people I've met. And selfish. I don't know how they manage to combine the two qualities. "You're welcome but you're on your own"....hahaI am actually sad at this hostility btw the two countries...Personally, I have partnered with a good Kenyan friend for over a decade now in conducting a business in Nairobi .I lived in and went to school in Kenya for certain periods in life. I have a good number of friends from there. My kids go there on holiday and my friends kids vice versa.I know some Kenyan teachers in higher levels of learning who live and work in Tz peacefully..One of my inlaws is married in Kenya for years now..I have never encountered any hostility while there or while conducting business..I guess my experience is rare..I guess the business person in me realizes diplomacy helps me achieve profit...
I wish there were better relations btw the two countries...
Maybe the ones deported are not legal?
Hard work without food? You are starving kila kukicha mnaomba chakula alafu unasema hardworking hehehe labda kuplot ujambaziYou are the rare gem on this JF from the other side of the divide assuming you are a Tanzanian just by your narration. So then having experiences of both worlds as it were, you can attest to it that most bongo bloggers here are stuck in that age-old narrative that Kenya is the hell on earth! Most Kenyans will never bother you unless you bother them and in any case they're very quick to cite legal procedures for any stalemate (after all we are the most litigious citizens on earth). We don't have that snooping habit but busy making our lives happen and in the process developing Kenya. Hard work!
Welcoming based on your ethnicity sio welcome any goonWhat pissed me off the most during my time in Kenya were the occasional "my country is better than yours" arguments. Maneno kama hayo Huzungumzwa na Vichaa na sio watu wenye Akili zaoWatz mna akili za kitoto, yaani kutoka huko juu kwenye ikulu hadi kule chini mbagala. Mnavofanya utoto huu wote afu Kenya imebaki tu kimya ndo mnajiona wajanjaa. Hamjui wakenya tunavowashangaa na upuuzi uliojaa kwenye akili zenu? Wakenya hatunaga time na mambo madogo madogo kama hayo. We fikiria mzee mzima, mwenye nyumba, akimfata hausigeli hadi jikoni. Afu badala ampe dushe wanaanza kubishana eti ni sufuria gani itapikia sima! 😀😀😀 I give up!
Kuna watu wakuachwa sio Wakenya hawa ni hovyo kabisaEven in USA,illegal migrants are always sent back to their countries,The authority in USA,(the power full and the most rich country in the world),even went further by electing a border wall to discourage the would be migrants,

A a Tanzanian living comfortably in a foreign land, if the account is indeed legit, I condemn this myopic and grotesque harassment of legal immigrants with the strongest possible terms.
The current government is not only discriminating against naturalized Tanzanians and legal immigrants living in Tanzania, it discriminates unfairly against Tanzanian nationals living in the diaspora.
You are among the few enlightened Tanzanians on JF. Your brothers on here are full of themselves forgetting that the world is interdependent. Their lack of exposure or alternative comparisons blinds their focus if any.
Geza Ulole njoo hapa. Najua sasa utasema hili basi lilichomwa kwasababu utingo alikuwa mtanzania. Au zile blah blah zako zingine za kila siku. Siku nyingine ukinyang'anywa shamba na mkenya, nenda ukanye kwenye shamba lenyewe kila usiku. Usilete sitilesi zako hapa jf!Kenyans don't hold that kind of hate towards tanzanians. The entire concept of nationality as bestowed us since the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 following the Thirty Years War (1618- 1648), a curiously foreign notion of statehood and sovereignty, especially in its most unnatural rendition facilitated by colonial interests, is not only very awkward, but also impractical.
Granted we have accepted these borders and lived with them for years, but do we have to squabble over these made up nationalities even when the rules of the new game allow for otherwise cohesive coexistence?
I for one consider myself a citizen of the world, on matters like these, I would often be reminded of an Albert Einstein saying.
When describing the negative aspect of nationalism, most probably because of first hand experience of how the Nazi machine exploited nationalism to attain its darkest desires in Germany in particular and most of Europe in general, Einstein said "Nationalism is an infantile disease, it is the measles of mankind".
I would like to separate myself from such a diseased notion, and let the beacon of reason give me the tools to rid myself of all myopic ventures whose outcome could only be in the saddest annals of unintended consequences.

On the flip side, a good number of Tanzanians are wary of Kenyans in the age old sense of "these guys are encroaching on our land/jobs/women etc" which is petty and parochial for someone who has traveled the world and live in the US . But to locals, it is their worldview.Nice read! I wish this could be translated into simple Swahili for the proponents of this toxic nationalism. imposed on us. Colonial powers were out for an easy ride by Divide-and-Rule and now we Africans have even perfected it by dividing-and-misruling!
