Kenya needs to revamp its defense capabilities

After hearing the positive news that Kenya is phasing out the F-5 and hopefully replacing it with the F-16, I looked into other ways Kenya could better organize their defense arrangements.

First, I would like to say that I'm very pleased with the G3A3 being the standard-issue rifle of the KDF and also the presence of the M-4 and the SCAR rifle in its arsenal.

As we already have the G3, which supplement it with a submachine which is also from the H&K family, the MP5. The MP5 is ideal for our security forces, both in the military and the police and would better serve us than the ancient Sten gun.


Also, we should improve our fleet of armored personnel carriers. We have a few Humvees and the Chinese knockoff version of the BTR APC. We should procure some APCs from South Africa such as the Casspir and the Mamba. We've already gotten used to them since they're the main APCs used by the AU mission in Somalia.



Everything that I've listed in this thread is realistic, both affordable and obtainable.
 
The SCAR rifle, used only by a select few, you must be highly trained to handle it.

 
KDF chief (former chief) even went to US to test the F-16....
But I honestly don't think we will be going for the f16.
First of all, the price, compared to other fighters from the west like the jf17(china) su-30 (Russia) or even some European fighters....

If we didn't get them during Obama's time, do you think trump will pass, especially the fact that Obama is associated with Kenya, politically speaking trump will want to keep any kind of engadgement with Kenya on the downlow, selling us f16 will make noise to his supporters..... But on the other hand it might be a good thing nw that trump will be in power, he might only be interested in American jobs and economy, so he might not care that much who buys American technology as long as they are not an enemy.....

Afadhali tununue Russian fighters, thogh they are not advanced as western fighters in terms of radar and electronic avionics, they have powerful engines, low maintenance cost and unlimited supply of spare parts and absolutely no strings attached
 
Kafrican Tayari USA and 37 other countries are planning to mass produce F35 BY 2020 Japan got its first delivery of F35 last week .....japan was to never acquire weapons due to the deal they signed with USA in 1946

Right now israel and Norway are returing their F16s and israel plans on buying 120 F35s for 5bn$

this things are not expensive if your in that ka club ka league of Nations you will get them Cheaper its just that we are in Africa to acquire such we need to Pay heavily But SA is developing some nice shit and it once suggested Kenya Nigeria and Egypt fund for RnD the thing is With wars you never know

Today at peace time in Africa we are spending a combined 70bn$ on military and 51bn$ on police = 120bn$ for security

When a war breaks out That amount will rise steadily....so it doesn matter i have been reading about SA the last few days

During the Namibian struggle for independence all countries in the west including Russia were barred from suppliying SA with Weapons

With that SA stole/acquired Designs from France on Helicopters and build upto 340 helicopters most of which cuba and west germany destroyed in Angola itbwent as far as Testing 7 nuclear weapon Near antactica (SA is the only country in Africa am honestly afraid of)- a US satelite decoded a message back to earth that showed bright light shinning in the pheripherals of Africa Indicating Nuclear Testing......

So weapons i wont be soo scared wen we are honestly in Danger ndio tutaona How weapon manufacturing will triple ...

Anyway F16:sioni kama ni za USA ndio tutapewa USA hu produce a different variety even different from European export types ....maybe Jordan or Israel or Norway will sell us ....by the way Sweden Saab gripens too are un Play SA Uses saab gripen and ITS waaaaay cheaper than F16 yet they source parts from a singular producers
 
Actually the russian Jets is better than the american one on that aspect here is mig 29

 
Museveni's planes have proven headache to the UPDF, Many have broken down in few years after purchase. I like the F series
 
As other users have pointed out, the G3 is being phased out in favor of the M4. The G3 should replace the AK-47 variants used in the police force.

Also, the Humvees the KDF possesses aren't adequate.

The KDF needs fully armored Humvees with turrets such as the kind in the Iraqi Army:

 
Im sure KDF has previously weighed the option of Russian hardware. Kenya is an allie of the west, and that means that we purchase our military stuff from them.

Purchasing heavy military equipment such as the sukhoi or the Migs would mean a shift in our alliance.

Though we purchase small equipment from the east.
 
As well as the Russian fighter jets being unreliable, the parts deliveries are inconsistent compared to the West/NATO's.

The most important thing for an armed force is keeping the number of casualties as low as possible. Kenya is failing to do this in Somalia. That's why the KDF urgently needs the F-16 to fly sorties against the insurgents. This is especially practical in NEP. It's unacceptable for troops to be ambushed and killed at will everyday within their own country.

Due to the incompetence of their superiors, KDF troops are sitting ducks. They live in buildings that are similar to school dormitories with the only security apparatus being a gate manned by one soldier. More outposts must be constructed and they must be of of the IDF kind, including watchtowers and fortified perimeters:
