What is going on in Zanzibar is really the clear symptoms of what happened i 1964 January.I know somehow the history of Zanzibar and some of their behaviors when it comes to politics. Its true that the laws and order were violated and it took us to where we are.
I have seen through media some events which alerts to conflicts and continued struggle among classes in these Isles.Whether the International community agree or not, Zanzibar is not peacefully again and soon after the Sunday election (if it will be successfully).
To me what I see, there is still long way to democracy in Africa and especially in Tanzania. It is my first time in my twenties to see the election canceled without complainants.
No single party or candidate claimed for misconduct and the prior results. Not even the government, not even the CCM, CUF. I wonder why have we decided as a country to re run the election with all that expenses. We are running short of income to finance our budget as a country, our primary and secondary students studies while sitting on the natural soil.
Our hospitals lack medication and doctors to heel these voters, Mr.President is complaining of misuse of public fund, but he allows billions of shillings to be spent in re-election which is unnecessary.
CCM knows what happened in 2015 elections. They clearly know about the results, CUF knows as well. The only problem with us is to accept the order of the day from our dictators(ccm).Because they have the police,an army, the national security and others.I remember I once wrote here that Tanzanian dictatorship is quite different from other systems of dictatorships in the world.Ours is "PARTY DICTATORSHIP".
That we only accept to change political cadres to lead and not to take party out of power. We have seen that many times. Tanzanians knows that CCM were defeated in 2015 elections in Zanzibar, but because we cant accept this simple truth, we are forcing to re-run the election so that we can show the world that Tanzania and especially Zanzibar does accept CCM to lead.To me this is like trying to make ourselves laugh.
If people of my lovely Zanzibar reacts the way they did in 1964, no one should be blamed except CCM and the government of United Republic of Tanzania.I listened to the so called chairman of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission(ZEC), He insisted that he canceled the results due to miss conduct. Other commissioners of the commission were not communicated, they were not even called to assist.
The police and the national security officers just took Jecha to unknown places and later on appeared to announce the cancellation(very interesting). This is totally undemocratic and unacceptable.
Because CCM and their Government can control Zanzibar with armies, that does not give them political legitimacy to rule. Zanzibaris will never shut up, they will continue struggling until they get their leaders democratically. There is no shortcut to maturity.Procedures must be followed, rules must be observed and people's voice must be respected.
on Sunday, there shall be held what they call election in ZANZIBAR,That does not qualify Zanzibarian politics. There were formed coalition government in Zanzibar in 2010 due to long and meaningful disagreement. The 1984 Zanzibar Constitution and its amendment in 2010 clearly establish this.
After the Sunday election still does not give credit for CCM to lead. There must be a partner party to form a coalition government(believe my words). No single party that is going to help CCM on this.Lawyers knows, Tanzanian'a knows and the world will realize this. The Constitution does not provide the room for Past the post.
In order for the party to be participated in forming the government must have certain percentage and a number of representatives elected by majority. Ccm has no miracle on this.
They have no way except to change the government and the Tanzanian government are going to take us back in 1960's of unilateralism. One party is going to participate in election and is going to win(this is only happening in Africa). They are going to tell the International community that there is democracy in Zanzibar party of Tanzania.
The Minister for Constitutional affairs and Justice last week addressed internal watchdogs that the external election observers do lie the International community because they take their interests with them.I cant affirm whether they have or not, because the minister did not pin point them. What contradicts me and other fellows is that why did the Mini sister and his party didn't reject them in 2015 elections.
When these external observers reported that the Tanzanian 2015 general elections were free and fair, the Minister and his party did accept that. This minister is a lawyer by professional, he knows all tricks that were used to maneuver the election in Zanzibar.
No one questions what happened in Tanzania mainland in 2015 elections because CCM won the battle(however it is questionable).
I keep on waiting to see the other side of History of Zanzibar. In January 1964, the Sultan was removed by not more that 200 Zanzibaris for only 6hours. This revolution is historically the shortest in the world.
I don't predict the waves but I can see the strong wind going through the ocean.
Am always positive when it comes to democracy and that shall be my opinion to death.
Thank you
