The UN Refugee Agency UNHCR says it will seek for the release of refugees and asylum-seekers who were among the 4, 000 people arrested in the swoops.
The agency said it had sought access to the detained refugees and asylum seekers held at Kasarani with a view of conducting proper identification.
In a statement, the refugee agency also appealed to Kenyan police force to respect the rights of all those arrested and to treat them in a humane manner.
UNHCR understands the security concerns of the Government of Kenya and the steps taken to protect the people who live in the country, the statement said.
Kenyan security forces have been conducting swoops in Eastleigh to flush out illegal immigrants. This was in response to twin terror attacks in the area that left six people dead and dozens injured.
The operation has involved door-to-door searches to comb out those without proper identification documents.
Inspector General of Police, David Kimaiyo on Monday said 200 of those arrested had been arraigned in court and charged with possession of forged identification documents.
He said the cartel behind the massive forgery was being trailed and that no refugee will be repatriated before the screening.

Unlike Tz that bundled every EAC citizen into lorries and kicked them out.

BBC just reported Kenyan gov has arrested Ugandans and Tanzanians too. Please stop that spirit of the law and we are all brothers in East Africa ---- . But on the other hand good job with what you guys are doing in Mombasa.

I also wondered what Tanzanians said about how their malicious government repatriated legal Kenyan and Ugandan teachers yet they went all the way yapping about them being left in the cold in the EAC block and that other members don't have spirit for brotherhood in the block yet they were gulping whine back home but preaching water when sober.They deserve to be repatriated since most Somali radicals bribe themselves back to Nairobi and Mombasa from the camps to carry out their terrorism which poses a huge risk to security in the country.Let them go,after all they have been flaunting our pity to them with impunity.......

those Kenyans and Ugandan teachers were not legally since they did not have working permits! If you know any Kenyan teacher repatriated with working permit in Tanzania pls name him/her for legal assistance

And this is exactly what we are doing now in Kenya, hunting down all those without proper documents. The rest are free to stay.

If Tanzanians were targeted too then Gikomba would just have to reduce into half because they are there in their thousands. it's considered as Dar es Salaam ndogo. Not to mention the thousands of Bongo witch-doctors across the country. Also not forgeting the Tanzanian beggars all over major cities. So note we are not targeting your brothers and sisters but the few unfortunate who lives alongside Somalis are subjected to the search.
