Government to Return Impounded DMC Vehicles for Repairs

Government has resolved to return vehicles impounded under the crackdown on Dangerous Mechanical Condition (DMC) vehicles to their owners for immediate repairs.

The decision was reached today following a meeting between officials from the Ministry of Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs and the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Under the new measure, owners of the impounded vehicles will be allowed to take them back and carry out the necessary mechanical repairs before returning them to the road in compliance with safety requirements.

The move comes amid growing concerns over the impact of the DMC crackdown on vehicle owners and motorists, particularly those whose vehicles were impounded during enforcement operations.

Meanwhile, Ms Fiona Nakku, the Female Workers’ Representative in Parliament, has called for the financial levy imposed on the impounded vehicles to be lifted.

Nakku argues that removing the levy would ease the financial burden on vehicle owners as they work to repair their vehicles and comply with the required safety standards.
