At least five people were killed and several others injured on Saturday evening after a truck overturned along the Moroto–Soroti highway in Napak District.
The crash occurred at about 5:30pm on August 29 at Lodoon Village in Lorengechora Sub-county.
According to police, the truck, registration number
UBH 543U, was travelling from Moroto towards Soroti when one of its front tyres burst. The sudden failure reportedly caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle off the road before it overturned several times.
Five occupants died at the scene, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to a health facility for treatment.
Police said the truck was carrying both passengers and cows at the time of the crash.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to a mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident continued.
