How It Works:
✅ Plants release chemicals into the air, called volatile organic compounds (VOCs), when they are stressed, attacked by insects, or even communicating with other plants.
✅ Insects detect these chemical signals using their sensitive antennae.
Some insects get attracted (e.g., pollinators like bees or butterflies to floral scents).
Others get repelled (e.g., some pests avoid plants that release warning signals after being attacked).
✅ Some predators (like ladybugs or parasitic wasps) follow these signals to hunt pests. For example, when a plant is attacked by caterpillars, it may release VOCs that attract parasitic wasps to come and attack the caterpillars.
✅ Neighboring plants can “listen” too, by priming their own defenses after sensing VOCs from an attacked plant.
