Are we ready for EAC-Common Market?

..i think agricultural production is not that low. the problem is on distribution and storage of agricultural products. take an example of Rukwa and you will agree with what i am suggesting.

..kwa hiyo kabla ya kufikiria kuongeza production per acre, labda tungefikiria kwanza jinsi ya kuhifadhi, kusambaza, na ku-process kinachozalishwa sasa hivi. Once we have managed to do that, there will be an incentive to increase the production.

..i think it is wrong to go into EAC negotiations believing that Watanzania deserve to be 'second fiddlers' na kuuza mahindi,choroko,mbaazi,ufuta etc to Kenya, while they export industrial products to us.

..I tend to believe that most of goods imported frm Kenya can be produced in Tanzania if we put the right conditions and incentives for the local/indeginous businessmen.


Statistics show that Kenyan exports to Tanzania grew from Sh22.3 billion in 2007 to Sh29.3 billion in 2008, an increase of 27 per cent.

..hizo statistics hapo juu is something Watanzania should be very very concerned. Ninachoona hapo ni opportunity of taking a hold of our markets which are not working for us at this time.

..tuachane na mentality to kujiona wajanja kuuza ngozi Kenya halafu wao wanatuuzia viatu; au kuuza ngombe na maziwa, halafu wao wanaturudishia sausages, yorgut and cheese; au kuuza pamba halafu wao wanatuuzia kanga.

Hello House members: Najiandaa kuchangia kuhusu hili suala la EAC Common market maana naona ni nyeti kwa mtanzania kama mimi. Smatta, Kagame ana sababu zake ku support fast tracking ya EAC, hasa za kisiasa - to diffuse Hutu and tUtsi tension in his own country. Karibia kila nchi ina vested interests zake ikiwa ni pamoja na overpopulation iin all other 4 so called member sates na jicho liko kwa Tanzania. We need time, it's our own country. Hawa majirani pia wanataka ku-off load their armies of unemployed when we have enough of our own. Mimi sitaki huu muungano hata kidogo, am only pro FDIs, not these empty handed job hunters from Kenya. Tanzanians, don't worry, generation ya good englsih speakers watakuwa wengi sokoni sasa hivi, maana Kenya ndicho wanacholingia. Sasa hivi the likes of St. Mary's International Schools are in plenty na wanaomaliza kule watakuwa wengi sokoni. I don't think we need Kenyans to come to compete for the fewer jobs that are created out of FDIs. Hatuhitaji mtu wa nje kuja kufanya kazi au biashara zinazoweza kufanywa na watanzania, huku ni kubeba mizigo na matatizo ya watu wengine. Na hiyo si kwa wakenya tu, ni pamoja na wachina na wengine wote, huu ni ujingam, sawa na mtu mwneye kipara kujitwisha gunia la misumari. Hapo sijasema ukabila na ubaguzi wa hawa majirani zetu. And they are already in, but it's at their own peril, siku watu wakifunguka macho..yatayotokea mtaniambia. Sisi tuna resources, hivyo tunahitaji FDIs wherever they may come from, ila si watu wa kuja kuzengea ardhi yetu kulima kwa jembe la mkonona kuanza kubanana. That we can manage on our own. Wakenya wanasema tunawachukia because of their superior education, why can't they use that education and craete jobs in their country. Mobona wamarekani na wajapan hatuwachukii, it is because they come with something, hawa wanegine ni kutuletea njaa zao tu. After all, taratibu za kuwekeza zipo wazi kupitia TIC. Tujihadhari, manake huko baadae, italeta hata umwagazi damu.

I have some questions for you, are you against the EAC as a whole, or you are against the federation with Kenya and Kenyans on board? Kitu ambacho naona umeandika hapa kwa wingi ni uchochezi wa hali ya juu, hivi wataka kumaanisha kuwa hakuna waTZ wengi wanaofanya kazi Kenya?

Ukiniuliza mbona hamuwachukii Wamerekani na Wachina (ambao wanaexport Tanzanite na diamonds kichizi na kulipa serekali pesa kidogo sana in compensation) wamaanisha mwachukia waKenya?
Tizama hizo lines ambazo nime zi highlight unieleze kama kweli una imani na ujirani wetu kama wana East africa, ama ingekuwa uwezo wako ungetuangamiza kama nchi ama utuhamishe tukaishi far from EA.

Unafahamu kilichochoea attacks za xenophobia kule SA, ni hizo nilizo zi highlight. EAC si issue ya Kenya na Tz, mbona twaignore wakina UG, Rwanda< Burundi, ama kwa fikira zetu hawa watu hawana tangible impact kwenye community.
 
Moreover, if my memory serves me right, one member on this forum pointed out that, employers are comfortable with Kenyans and not Tanzanians...this is filthy, they should be able to work with whoever can do the jobs. Much as Tanzanian graduates may lack corporate culture or exposure ( and note it's just culture, not knowledge ),i don't believe that, out of thousands jobless graduates you can sieve and miss few who can do the job instead of relying on foreigners who won't make even a difference. After all, how many jobs are there kiasi cha kuhitaji wageni kwa kazi ambazo hazihitaji utalaamu mkubwa..i can only allow few of them. Walimu waje, kama kweli ni wazuri, waje ila nayo sina uhakika..ila walimu hawana madhara. Watanzania tuache kupapatikia watu wa nje na dhaifu kama wakenya, ambao pia ni maskini..hao wanaleta njaa zao. Mimi shida yangu ni FDIs tu..Kama ni ma-doctor au neuro surgeons, let them come, but again i don't think Kenyans have enough in their country. Yaani tukaribishe kile tunachokihitaji, siyo kufungulia floodgate where you end up with even cockroaches, snakes, snails and all kinds of mavi.

Bidhaa zinazokuja Kenya ni raw, hasa vyakula kwa vile vinahitajika kutokana na upungufu ulioko Kenya. Maziwa ya Musoma Dairy, na baadhi ya bidhaa za viwandani za Tanzania vinapigwa vita Kenya. Halafu, Wakenya wana ukabila, ni wabaguzi, kwa vile wamelelewa hivyo na hayo mmethibitisha wenyewe kwenye uchaguzi wenu uliopita. Nimetembelea kumekucha forum, wanasema Tanzanians can't stand their guts in terms of their/your superior education. Now, am i bound to welcome you to compete for my own fewer resources when am not even ready for it? Who should decide in whose country should that competition take plae? Any win lose relations are doomed to failure, they will never be lasting.
 
Smatta: Ooh, nimesahau kujibu. Am against EAC Federation, so much so. But we can only selectively and voluntarily streamline trade in our region. Mwingiliano wa karibu sana bila kujiandaa unaweza kuleta matatizo makubwa, kwa maoni yangu.

i ni maskini, na jirani zetu ni maskini, sasa ni jambo la kwenda taratibu. Pia uwezo wetu wa innovation, kutengeneza ajira mpya/opportunities mpya ni mdogo, tutaishia kuchapana. Tutakuta tunakwenda kwenye mambo ambayo hayakutarajiwa. Jirani zetu ni maskini, hata ardhi hawana, na uazi wa mpago hawataki....hehe mambo ya family planning!!!. Jamani haya ni mawazo yangu tu.
 

I think on this issue you should fight it out with your employers, not the common Kenyan Mwananchi. its not like Kenyans line up the streets of Dar to get employment, or we stay reading the papers to see if there are job openings in Dar so that we can go to there in droves to earn the much valued Tz shilling.

Hapo ulipoanza kutuita cockroaches ndipo umeniangusha sana mtu wangu, I thought we were discussing issues, kama ni mambo ya employment of Kenyans in Bongo, we can talk about that, lakini utumbo kama huu, mimi sipo mwenzangu, sitaki kuharibu saumu yangu kwa mambo hayana faida kwangu personally. As long as am making money in and outside Kenya (read Tanzania), sina beef, lakini when am at risk nikiwa Bongo kwa sababu ya plain ol' jealousy, then kuna shida, sababu mimi siwezi kubali kufanyiwa upuzi nikiangalia, am not a pushover, and I know thousands of Kenyans like me.

..if you ask me Watanzania prefer Mozambicans to Kenyans kwasababu tunaheshimiana, tunathaminiana, na tunaamini kwamba ni ndugu kutokana na recent history ya vita ya ukombozi.
 

If you ask me, you are still stuck on those Liberation days, its like you still want some form of kickback from your Southern African brothers, are they really stuck on you like you are on them? I doubt.

And BTW this is not an issue of preference between Nations, its survival for the fittest, some times we are forced to do business with people we dislike, we dont have a choice but to play our roles so as to gain some benefits in the long run, and move on without the other business partner . To me, its like you dont have a choice but to join the EAC, just weigh your options, and trust me utaniunga mkono, hii ni biashara wala si ndoa.

Let me give you facts, we wount unite with the countries you have mentioned above, nope. tutaungana na nyinyi 'ndugu' zetu wa Tz, mtake msitake, why is this so hard for you to grasp, hapa hakuna cha kubishana, viongozi wenyu washakubali, so kwangu hii ni empty talk na empty threats, mtaongea sana lakini finally EAC will live to its function, erasing the borders of the 5 EA countries.

What I find funny is that some(note the word some) of you really hate us, as in seriously hating us.. kile kinachonishangaza ni kuwa waTz mkija huku kwetu twawakaribisha, hatuna beef nanyi, I really dont know where we messed up tukawafanya mtuchukie hivyo. Ama ni uto tukazi wakenya wanapata huko kwenyu? Ama ni aggresiveness yetu yawababaisha? I really cant understand the source of all that venomous feeling you have.

The level of irrational xenophobia displayed by some here really borders on insanity. It really raises questions over our understanding of data and facts, our willingness to seek help when we can't fully rationalise what's in front of us and our overall reputation as hospitable pan Africans.

We admonish South Africans and other foreigners over their hatred of others yet we are also guilty of the same crime. Our hypocrisy can be cringeworthy at times.

..sasa hiyo "survival of the fittest" approach is what is giving the EAC a bad name. a win-win situation is what EAC members should aim for.

..if EAC borders are to be removed then it has to be on Tanzanians terms. facts on the ground are that Kenya, Uganda,Rwanda, and Burundi, are not ready to proceed with the federation without Tanzania.

..there are some protocals that Tanzanian leaders signed on to, and are now realising that the ppl are against them. majority of Tanzanians are against free movement of labor, and free access to land.

..Tanzanians are looking for a "win-win" situation, and they are out to investigate what is there for them, and what each country is bringing to the table.
