The clan of the late paramaount chief Thomas Marealle of the chagga tribe has announced December 28 2011 as the day when the clan will choose its new family leadership as well as select a replacement for the late chief Augustine Marealle who passed away on may 28 2006.
In meeting held in marangu in moshi Rural District in the presence of journalists, the clan categorically rejected claims by Mr Frank Marealle,a busnessman and one of chief Augustine Marealle's younger brothers that he is the heir to the marangu chiefdom.
But according to the family, the matter has yet to be decided upon and no decision will be made until the full clan meeting in Dec.
Speaking on the clan's behalf the acting chairman and first son of the late chief marealle,Mr Teddy Marealle dismissed as unfounded claims by frank that has been chosen by the marangu people to inherit the throne.
He said that frank's campaign to be bestowed as chief ran contrary to chagga customary practise whereby a chief's position is normally inherited by one of his children and not a relative.
"we have received information alleging that frank has been holding unofficial meeting and claiming that the people of marangu have chosen him to inherit chief Augustine as the new marangu chief and that preparations to anoint him were underway. All these claims are false and unfounded" Teddy claimed.
