2009 French Open results - Congratulations to the new champions:
Roger Federer and Svetlana Kuznetsova!

And what about 2010.???

French Open History

The French Open can trace its origins back to 1891 when the Championat de France International de Tennis was first played at Stade Francais in Paris. Entry to the tournament was originally restricted to French players and was played on lawn courts.

According to French Open history, the French Open moved to its trademark 'clay' surface in 1912- with courts made of crushed red clay. By 1925 the French Tennis Federation had opened the tournament to foreign players, and top international amateur players began competing in the event on a regular basis.

In 1968 the French Championship made history by dropping restrictions on professional players participating in the tournament, becoming the first Grand Slam to go 'open'.

The French Open has been hosted by the Stade Roland Garros since 1928. Named after French aviator Roland Garros, the venue was initially constructed to host the 1928 Davis Cup tie between France and the United States. The open-air Roland Garros courts sprawl over an area of 3 miles.

The 2010 French Open Tennis Tournament

Men's Draw Preview: Your Players

1.Andy Murray
Andy Murray is the big hope of British tennis. The only British player in his generation with the skill and stamina to win at the highest level.

Andy Murray claims to prefer the clay court surface due to having learnt his skills on the clay of Barcelona.

Andy Murray 2010 French Open Form
Andy Murray has not been in the best form ahead of the 2010 French Open. Since reaching the final of the Australian Open, where he lost to Roger Federer in straight sets, Murray has lost his number four ATP ranking. The Scot is yet to win a tournament on tour in 2010.

2. Juan Martin del Potro
Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro announced his arrival as one of the stars of the ATP Tour by defeating Roger Federer in the final of the 2009 US Open

Juan Martin del Potro is most effective when dictating play from the baseline. The Argentinean is capable of generating enormous speed on his flat forehand strokes, and also has the ability to generate topspin on these shots

Juan Martin del Potro French Open Form
While Juan Martin del Potro's potential is undisputed, his form in 2010 has not been up to standard. The Argentinean has struggled to make a breakthrough on the ATP Tour, and is yet to win a tournament ahead of the 2010 French Open.

3. Novak Djokovic
Serbia's Novak Djokovic is an imposing figure in any tournament he competes in. Unpredictable but brilliant, the Serb can beat the best in the world on his day

Novak Djokovic is one of the best baseline players in the business, capable of hitting winning shots from the back of the court

Novak Djokovic French Open Form
Novak Djokovic made an auspicious start to the 2010 tennis season when he won a tournament in Dubai. However, the Serb has since struggled to find form and has not won another tournament ahead of the 2010 French Open. Never his best tournament, the 2010 French Open is probably not Djokovic's best opportunity to win in Paris.

4. Rafael Nadal
Without a doubt the finest clay court player of his generation, Rafael Nadal is destined to begin every French Open tournament as a favourite in the betting markets

Rafael Nadal's successful playing style relies more on mental toughness and determination than specific technical strengths. The Spaniard possesses a solid all round game, including a powerful and accurate first serve.

Rafael Nadal French Open Form
Rafael Nadal appears to have shaken off the poor form that bedeviled him following his knee surgery in 2009. The Spaniard is back to his best on clay, and won both the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters series clay-court events in 2010, suggesting that he is back to his formidable best on the surface

5. Roger Federer
Roger Federer confirmed his status as the greatest player of the Open Era when he won his maiden French Open title at Roland Garros in 2009, completing his career Grand Slam and equaling Pete Sampras' record for grand slam wins.

Roger Federer's game is characterized by all-round technical perfection. The Swiss master has mastered every aspect of the game of tennis, and can play from all areas of the court. His biggest asset is his whip-like forehand shot which gives him considerable power off the baseline.

Roger Federer French Open Form
Despite these stellar achievements, Roger Federer's ability to go the distance in the 2010 French Open is in doubt. Federer has achieved little on the ATP circuit since winning the 2010 Australian Open title. There are real questions to be asked over whether or not Federer has the hunger to win yet another Grand Slam title.

The French Open is renowned for being one of the toughest grand slams to win. The unique properties of the clay surface contributes to long rallies and mens' singles matches routinely go to 5 sets
Nadal atachukua hili kombe kwa wanaume sidhani kama atawapa nafasi wapinzani wake waende zaidi ya seti 3

Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer 6-4 7-6 (7-5) to win the Madrid Masters and make himself red hot favourite for the French Open, which starts next week.
