Several United Nations (UN) officials working in Arusha (Tanzania) for the International Criminal Court on Rwanda are worried about their future after this court closes in 2013. They therefore tend to try to recover all the legal affairs in the region, from the 2008 post-election violence in Kenya to the crimes by armed militia in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The difficulty many countries have to try captured Somalian pirates has therefore led these UN officials to consider bringing them to trial in Arusha. But Tanzania does not see it that way and categorically opposes such an idea. The authorities in Dar es Salaam do not want to attract the wrath of the Al Shabaab Somalian Islamists and see their country turn into a permanent ground for terrorist threats.
