"Zero Dark Thirty" is an upcoming 2012 American action thriller film about the special operations forces mission to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. The film is directed and co-produced by Kathryn Bigelow with screenplay by Mark Boal, both associated with The Hurt Locker, another military action thriller that won the Academy Award for Best Picture and five other Oscars in 2009. It stars Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, and Mark Strong.

Title change

The title "Zero Dark Thirty as been officially confirmed at the end of the movie's teaser trailer. Earlier it was sometimes referred as Kill Bin Laden and Hunt.

Filming

The film was shot at Chandigarh, India. Some parts of Chandigarh were turned into Lahore and Abbottabad, Pakistan, where Osama bin Laden was found and killed in May 2011

Controversies

The Obama Administration was accused of improperly providing Bigelow and her team access to classified information during research for the film, and the Pentagon was investigating whether the filmmakers had improper access to classified material for the movie, but Bigelow denied favoritism by Obama. Opponents of the Obama Administration charged that Zero Dark Thirty was to be released in October 2012, just before the presidential election, to support the reelection of Barack Obama, who gave the command to initiate the raid and get Bin Laden. Sony has since set the release date for December, 2012 and denied that it was ever scheduled for release before the election.

Now, Zero Dark Thirty lands in theaters on December 19th, 2012, and it stars Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Scott Adkins, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Taylor Kinney and others.

Reuters reported that Judicial Watch released CIA documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request which depicted the CIA officials as star-struck fans of Bigelow's Academy Award-winning film Hurt Locker, but no evidence of classified information leaked to the filmmakers emerged and the CIA records did not show any involvement by the White House.

There have been reports of Right-wing Hindu protests against the Pakistani portrayal on Indian land.
