This two-week program emphasizes a livelihoods approach to microfinance, enterprise, and community economic development. The course is held at the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire in the United States. The curriculum is built upon a foundation of the Five Capitals of sustainable livelihoods—natural, physical, human, social, and financial. The Boulder Institute of Microfinance holds its 18th annual training program from July-August at the International Training Center of the ILO in Turin, Italy. The Boulder MFT program is one of the most popular and well attended microfinance training programs each year. EU/ACP Microfinance Programme is offering 20 scholarships to government officials from ACP countries who make or implement policies that impact access to finance. Applications must be made online here by 15 May 2012.

European Microfinance Programme

The European Microfinance Programme (EMP) is a one-year Master’s degree program focused on microfinance. The program is jointly organized by four European universities and five non-governmental organizations (ADA, BRS, CERISE, PlaNet Finance Belgium, and SOS Faim). Classes are taught in English at the University Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. In addition to course work, all students complete a 2 to 4 month internship at a microfinance institution in a developing country. Note that applicants must already have a Master’s degree to be eligible for the EMP. More information >>

WAM-NY Training Scholarships for Women Microfinance Practitioners

Ready for Business by Robyn Nietert, 2011 CGAP Microfinance Photography Contest.
Women Advancing Microfinance-New York (WAM-NY) is sponsoring women microfinance practitioners at the mid-management level to attend specialized training programs to strengthen their skills and leadership opportunities. The eligibility criteria are:

  • Candidate should be a female working for an MFI;
  • Should have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in microfinance and a minimum of 1 year of work experience with her current microfinance employer;
  • Should have some level of management responsibility within her MFI. Preference will be given to those candidates in middle management positions;
  • Should have the language skills necessary to participate in the program of her choice;
  • Should agree to submit a brief post-training report communicating her learning and experience to WAM-NY.
Preference will be given to candidates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Candidates may select a program from the pre-approved list or suggest a program of their choice when applying for the scholarship. More details are provided in the application form (currently available in English or Spanish).
The application deadline has been extended to 23 April 2012. They had a high level of interest and are currently processing applications received by the original deadline. Additional applications are welcome until the new deadline and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. More information>>
