WAM-NY Training Scholarships for Women Microfinance Practitioners
Women Advancing Microfinance-New York (WAM-NY) is sponsoring women microfinance practitioners at the mid-management level to attend specialized training programs to strengthen their skills and leadership opportunities. The eligibility criteria are:
The application deadline has been extended to 23 April 2012. They had a high level of interest and are currently processing applications received by the original deadline. Additional applications are welcome until the new deadline and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. More information>>

| Jun 18 - Jun 29 | Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP) Certificate Date: 18 June 29 June 2012 Location: New Hampshire, USA Fee: $4,250 Application Deadline: 4 May 2012 (to be considered for scholarship) This two-week program emphasizes a livelihoods approach to microfinance, enterprise, and community economic development. The course is held at the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire in the United States. The curriculum is built upon a foundation of the Five Capitals of sustainable livelihoodsnatural, physical, human, social, and financial. It emphasizes tools and strategies of transparency and good management practices that honor the Triple Bottom Line (financial, social, environmental) of sustainability. | Jul 8 - Jul 13 | Frankfurt School Micro & SME Banking Summer Academy Date: 8 July - 13 July 2012 Location: Frankfurt, Germany Fee: EUR 3,000 Application Deadline: 31 May 2012 The Frankfurt School's Micro & SME Banking Summer Academy is aimed at managers of microfinance institutions, commercial banks active in microfinance, and microfinance investors. Participants tailor their experience by selecting from a number of electives. The program emphasizes both technical aspects of microfinance and leadership. | Jul 16 - Aug 03 | Boulder Microfinance Training (MFT) in English and French Date:16 July 03 August 2012 Location: Turin, Italy Fee: $4,500 Application Deadline: 15 June 2012 (or earlier if the program reaches capacity) The Boulder Institute of Microfinance holds its 18th annual training program from July-August at the International Training Center of the ILO in Turin, Italy. The Boulder MFT program is one of the most popular and well attended microfinance training programs each year. The extensive course selection is complimented each day by a core symposium for all attendees, led by the president of the Boulder Institute, Robert Christen. EU/ACP Microfinance Programme is offering 20 scholarships to government officials from ACP countries who make or implement policies that impact access to finance. | Sept 3 - Sept 14 | School of African Microfinance Date: 3 September - 14 September 2012 Location: Mombasa, Kenya Fee: $4,950 Application Deadline: 31 July 2012 The School of African Microfinance (SAM) offers a two week training program aimed at mid- and senior-level professionals working in microfinance. The program format consists of plenary sessions to cover key topics, electives (participants choose 4 out of 14 options), and moderated discussions. The courses aim to provide participants with the tools to develop market focused strategies, deliver appropriate products and services, and lead high performing institutions. | Sept 2012 - Sept 2013 | European Microfinance Programme Date: September 2012 September 2013 Location: Brussels, Belgium Fee: TBD, fee for 2011-2012 program was EUR 835 Application Deadline: 30 April 2012 (for students from developing countries) The European Microfinance Programme (EMP) is a one-year Masters degree program focused on microfinance. The program is jointly organized by four European universities and five non-governmental organizations (ADA, BRS, CERISE, PlaNet Finance Belgium, and SOS Faim). Classes are taught in English at the University Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. In addition to course work, all students complete a 2 to 4 month internship at a microfinance institution in a developing country. - Candidate should be a female working for an MFI;
- Should have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in microfinance and a minimum of 1 year of work experience with her current microfinance employer;
- Should have some level of management responsibility within her MFI. Preference will be given to those candidates in middle management positions;
- Should have the language skills necessary to participate in the program of her choice;
- Should agree to submit a brief post-training report communicating her learning and experience to WAM-NY.
