Sijui kama mnaelewa kwamba siku hizi sehemu kubwa ya uendeshaji wa ndege ni kwa kutumia kompyuta (Hand-off flying)? Ni kwamba hata kule kutua pilot kazi yake ni ndogo sana, hasa wanapotumia Autoland.

Lakini sasa inaonekana kuna matatizo makubwa yanajitokeza. Kwanza, hivi karibuni kuna mtu alidai aliweza kuingilia mfumo wa computer wa ndege katika siti yake kwa kutumia waya za personal onboard entertainment system, na aliweza kubadilisha uelekeo wa ndege bila hata ma-pilot kujua! Huyu jamaa alikamatwa sijui kaishia wapi.

Pili, kuna ndege kubwa ya Airbus (ya kijeshi) ambayo imeanguka hivi karibuni kwa sababu engine tatu ziliacha kufanya kazi, sio kwa sababu ya ubovu, bali kwa kuwa na installation error kwenye mfumo wa kuendesha ndege (software), ambapo software ili-freeze (nadhani suala la ku-freeze computer tunalielewa). Baada ya ku-freeze injini zilisimama ndege ikaanguka!

Tatu, ni kwamba inasemekana ma-pilot siku hizi hawana uzoefu kabisa wa kuendesha ndege kwa sababu mara nyingi wanategemea computer. Hivyo emergency inapotokea wanakuwa hawajui wafanye nini wanakimbilia kusoma manual! Ile ndege ya Air France iliyoangukia baharaini inasemekana ilianguka kwa sababu hii. Pitot tube za kupima speed ya ndege ziliganda kwa barafu zikawa zinaonyesha error ya altitude, jamaa wakahangaika wakijaribu kupanda juu zaidi, kumbe wanakosea waminua sana ndege (angle of attack) matokeo yake ikaanza kupoteza altitude hadi ikazama baharini!

Nne, ni kwamba, ikiwa terrorists watajua namna ya ku-hack mfumo wa kuongoza ndege kwa computer wakiwa ardhini au ndani ya ndege yenyewe, basi tumekwisha! Inawezekana kuna wakati tukaambiwa laptops na simu lazima ziwe checked in sio kuingia navyo kwenye ndege!

Airbus says crashed A400M had triple engine failure:

An A400M military transporter that crashed in Spain last month suffered a triple engine failure linked to suspected software problems, Airbus said on Wednesday.

Nations involved in Europe's largest defense project have been told that the power froze, twice, on three out of four engines shortly after take-off, Airbus (AIR.PA) said in a statement.

It said that investigations had shown that this was linked to the same issue that caused Airbus to order checks on engine control software after the May 9 crash.

Officials have said the focus of the investigation involves software installation errors at the Spanish assembly plant.

Na kiukweli, flying these huge birds like the Airbus A380 on manual is simply too much work, both physical and mental. And trust me, you dont want an exhausted pilot in the cockpit.

Kwa kawaida inapotokea emergency/ problem kwenye cockpit mara nyingi ruban huwa wana muda mdogo sana wa ku make decision usually not more than 3 min, kwa hali hiyo ku make right decision pamoja na ku perfom trial and error ni ngumu sana angalau computer system ndo zenye msaada wa haraka na ni reliable
 
Sasa mimi kama abiria nifanyeje kukwepa hili? Au kama kwenye 'daladala' wakati wa kuingia kwenye ndege nimwambie rubani asitumie 'autopilot'?
