Tanzania's aviation industry has achieved a significant milestone with the successful assembly of three aircraft at the Morogoro Regional Airport plant. This achievement, undertaken by Czech company Airplane Africa Limited (AAL), marks a historic first for aircraft assembly in Africa.
This initiative has not only showcased Tanzania's aviation potential but also contributed to the development of the local skilled workforce, with many technicians being graduates of the National Institute of Transport (NIT).
The assembled Skyleader planes have a passenger capacity ranging from two to four individuals. Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA) Director General Mussa Mbura expressed pride in this accomplishment during a press briefing on March 18, 2024.
He highlighted the economic benefits of AAL's investment, including revenue generation for the government and job opportunities for Tanzanian citizens.
Mbura also mentioned plans for further expansion, indicating that the assembly of additional aircraft is on the horizon. He noted that one of these aircraft had been previously showcased at the Sabasaba industrial exhibition, indicating the growing interest and recognition of Tanzania's aviation capabilities.
The Morogoro plant is the sole AAL branch in Africa. Engineer Igor Stratl, the Director of the Morogoro plant, cited Tanzania's reputation for security, stability, and peace as key factors in AAL's decision to invest in the country.
