Lusekelo anakata tawi alilokalia?

...some days he comes across as straight out of some bar, with the hangover still in the head.

Totally outta whack.

Daily News huyu ndio premier editorial journalist wao.

ARE YOU A FOODIE OR NOT ?

Strange world. While we are worrying about hunger in East Africa, the people in the West are worrying about too much food. They have too much to eat. Too fat the gyms are making a killing while trying to reduce fat torsos.

Their mouths go to overdrive everywhere. Munch, chomp, chew! But they have large middle-classes, which mean food manufacturers pay attention to them.

So you get diet things - coke, yoghurt and chocolate and I think diet friends. They spend most of their times not eating than eating! They guys practically dig their graves with their teeth!

The wazungus are very picky eaters. I remember once the media said that fruit was good for you and everyone descended on fruit. Then someone talked about mad-cow diseases and the sale of beef crashed.

Now we have the scare of bird flu. The thing is a deadly killer. Several
people have been killed by the stuff – but hardly a tsunami number.

Some migrating birds from Europe are coming to Africa and if we don't watch out they will infect out kukus and maybe kill most of us.

Well, I don't know. If a guy got hold of his amore and offered her a charcoal grilled chicken. Will the bint say no?

Check the scenario. Some guy offers things to impress his mpenzi: "Hi baby, how about some grilled kuku and a lovely, drink. How does that sound?"

Ideally it would be: "Oh no! There is a danger of bird flu pandemic all over the world, you want to kill me or something?" she would scream and the guy will feel bad that he was planning to kill his woman.

But let's be realistic. Here is a guy in Bongo, he has got his ‘pay' from some exploiting company, then he goes to meet his baby: "Hi baby, how about a grilled chicken and a cold drink."

She will hug him and say: "Oh you sexy man! How romantic you are! Throw in a couple of grilled bananas, to be washed down with a glass of chilled white wine."

These things are a little exaggerated I think. Yes, there is HIV/AIDS. Education for the people will help tremendously. Education on the cheap, not seminars by people trying to be intelligent about it.

Bongo is ill-equipped to fight AIDS, and bird flu and even hunger. God loves Bongo. As a sage once said, when in dire straits always say – it could have been worse.

Now ask your lady or guy whether they would like grilled chicken and tell me if they will say no.

Kama unaona Ndugu Lusekelo yuko sawa, mbona umemsapoti mchangiaji aliyesema kwamba mara nyingine Lusekelo anaandika kama katoka kulewa: "SteveD says thank you Blue Ray for this useful post"?

Kama unaona Ndugu Lusekelo yuko sawa, mbona umemsapoti mchangiaji aliyesema kwamba mara nyingine Lusekelo anaandika kama katoka kulewa: "SteveD says thank you Blue Ray for this useful post"?

Sio kila mara mtu atoapo thanks kwenye post ya mtu kuwa anasapoti alichosema huyo mtu. Wakati mwingine mtu anaweza akawa "thanks" happy na kumwaga thank yous kibao just for the hell of it!!

"some days", "saa nyingine" would've been fine by me.

Stealing billions is national security?

I am a mtoto wa KiAfrica. Was raised here and now I hear plenty of shkamos from kids followed by the word ‘Mzee’. That is a sign of respect from the younger guys in society.

This automatically means I have to watch my step as ‘Mzee.’ No necking in bars, no bonking with some chick at the Gymkhana grounds or in the back-seats of cars. No getting sozzled on booze like there is no tomorrow, no childish fights for chicks and no peeing in public. In short, etiquette demands that I respect myself to the nearest decimal. And – no lying. Wazee don’t look pretty when they lie.

Be courteous, respect everybody, and obey the law. Certainly no bullying of the disadvantaged people in society. But when I was growing I was taught not to take any crap from anybody. Because the closer you look at society, the more you realize that there are plenty of hyenas out there dressed up as lambs.

Sober governments, which claim to respect democracy, the rule of law and good governance should also behave like adults. The thing is, do they? Hardly!

The recent events in the Bunge testify to that. The government, through the Speaker of the Bunge, Sam Six have been busy gagging legislators from asking questions on how the tax-payers’ monies have being spent. Or, more likely, mispent. Stolen.

The CCM government has been savaging the Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly, Dr. Wilbrod Slaa after he demanded an explanation as to the controversial payments made by the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) to a string of dubious gold related companies. Reason? National security.

Said Dr Slaa: “To classify a company like Meremeta as a top secret military project is a deliberate attempt to the Government to mislead the public about this matter. This has nothing to do with national security.” He said.

“The Government should be honest about this thing and publicly disclose where the $155 million paid by the BoT to this company actually went.” He added.

It’s like a Mzee after being caught with his pants down performing lewd acts with someone in a public toilet. You ask him, “Mzee you were caught groaning with someone in the loo. What was happening?”

The Mzee comes out, breathing hard and grunts: “Nothing! And I will not say anything for reasons of national security!”

Others who have heard the grunting from the loo by the Mzee will shake their heads in belief and say: “Kale kazee ni kahuni sana! Kajambazi!”

Dr Slaa has told the House that he would not be silenced even after a government order – which is rightly so. Those MPs are at the Bunge not as beauty contestants. They are there to act on our (wananchi) behalf. Where are the bloody Meremeta billions?

If the money has been chopped, then Tanzanians have the right to know about that. But that is not bloody ‘national security’. It is theft. As Dr Slaa told the Bunge he was querying about grand theft in government, not the TPDF.

So the government would like to make us believe that what befalls the military equals to national security? Who said soldiers can’t be thieves? It’s like the dirty old man caught in the loo saying: “I was grunting in the loo because we were playing marbles!” Utterly laughable. The government is trying to use the ‘national security’ crap to intimidate us!

Even other MPs are fed up with the charade. They have warned against a rising tide of grand corruption in the country, saying efforts to fight the vice so far have been disappointing.

In a rare show of unity, key legislators from the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) joined forces with their opposition counterparts in the House to demand much more decisive action from the government in tackling high-level graft.

Mama Anne Kilango Malecela (Same East – CCM) has issued a direct challenge to Premier Mizengo Pinda to give the House a proper briefing on progress made so far in the officially-declared war against grand corruption in the country.

We are ready to listen. But if Mzee (meaning Government) insists that when he was caught moaning with delight with a young chick in a public loo, they were playing marbles, then we will pretend to agree. That being caught grunting in the public loo is a matter of national security? Some utterances by the rulers deserve nothing but contempt and ridicule they deserve.

It worth reading na hutachoka

Iliwezekana kumpinga Mwalimu, but you had to be good enough kumpinga kwa hoja na umshinde!

this is the biggest myth ever! unajua ni mambo mangapi yalikuwa yanasemwa kuhusu Mwalimu?

Wakati ule wa njaa ya 1984 wakati tunakaribia kufa njaa, wafanyabiashara wakaanza kuficha bidhaa ili waziuze kwa magendo (interfered with supplies of essential commodities) na lazima serikali iingilie kati and I promise you.. that will happen again in case wafanyabiashara wetu wanataka kutengeneza faida zaidi kwenye migongo ya wakulima na wafanyakazi wa nchi yetu!

Hilo halina mjadala na nina akili timamu kutambua Nyerere hakuwa muumba, kwani alikufa kama wanadamu wengine! I don't need a lecture on his humanity for I have never argued that he was a divine being! or a Son of a God!

Pamoja na yote hayo Mwl is the great!

Hivi Lusekelo anaijua jamboforums? labda anaweza akaja humu akachota mawazo ya topic na kuandika makala...

Welcome to Dark es Salaam!

Adam Lusekelo
Tuesday October 24, 2009

THE citizens of Dar, no Dark es Salaam, have been baying, and still are, for quick action. They want their electricity or else! Not me! Over the years I have learnt not to raise my blood pressure because government incompetence and goofing. It's not news.

Having been born an incorrigible optimist I thank the Almighty for my ability to look at the silver lining, not the cloud. If there is a problem, I don't get angry, I get smart.

Take one. My ka-chick and I have all those lovely candle-lit dinners, every evening. It's unbelievably romantic. Thanks to the government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Two of my neighbours have asked me for the government's baby making ministry's address. They are expecting to multiply in their family. Babies are on the way as a result of the romantic nights.

Personally, I am expecting to get the vacant job of Tanesco managing director. I hear some 50 guys have already applied. I will be the 51st, and believe me, I will get the job.

Don't give me the bull-crap of not being qualified. Actually I have been withholding my PhD in Electricity Shedding for ages. Waiting for the right moment to strike.

Timing is extremely important in these matters. So enter Dr. Adam Lusekelo (PhD Electricity Shedding) I know, having Richmond in mind, Bwana Mkubwa, Jack Mrisho himself, will understandably be asking suspiciously what miracles I will perform as the new boss of the utility company.

This will be easy streets for me. I will tell Mkuu that I will order for 10,000 transformers -- from India, of course. These will be generously distributed throughout the country. Major towns like Msata in the coast region will get 500 machines. That will solve the problem of oncoming El Nino rains.

I will advice 'Mzee' that if the rains do not fall with discipline, that is, at Mtera and all those strategic rain catching areas, he will have to dispatch post-haste, the Premier Mizengo Pinda to go to Thailand and buy some, lest there is drought. It has been done before with former Premier Lowassa.

I will tell Mkuu that I have in place those indefatigable Tanzanian businessmen who have been helping this thankful nation how to cut all those deals like the radar thing, the Iveco trucks for the army, and now a 50 billion tractor deal, which will quadruple our agriculture in just five years time.

Super nationalist, Jayantial 'Jeetu' Patel has won the tractor deal. I will respectfully suggest that another super nationalist, Tarik 'Bulbul' Singh Sohal, of Idodi, in Iringa, be awarded the 10,000 transformer import deal.

But that is not all. As Tanesco boss I will assume that Tanesco has been possessed by the devil. So will summon all the preacher men in town to come and exorcise the devils (pepo), every week.

Is this the Daily News?

Adam Lusekelo

Daily News;
Sunday,October 14, 2007

I was there when the late Mwalimu Nyerere ‘nationalised’ the ‘Standard’ newspaper. He called it what we now know - the Daily News. I will quote heavily on his maiden piece.

“In the future there can be no suspicion that this English language newspaper is serving the interests of foreign private owners…” Mwalimu intoned.

“As a nationally owned newspaper, the first aim of the ‘Standard’ will be to serve the interests of the people of Tanzania.” Mzee wrote.

But has it? Has the Daily News lived up to Mzee’s dream? Much water has passes under the bridge. The paper which was to help build socialism is now devoid of any ideology. It is busy being the custodian of government secrets, nay, government officials. According to the Daily News, Buzwagi never happened.

Richmond has never existed. It is a figment of imagination of all those enemies of Tanzania and agents of imperialism. Rulers are busy on the front pages in the press trying to impress the rest of us that they are busy.

The Daily News is expected to operate without government subsidy, but its purpose will be service , not making of profit. Or so Mzee thought. But it has been receiving subsidies until recently when a guy called Seth Kamuhanda came in and turned it around. It is now making money.

Ages ago I suggested to the then minister for information, the late Ahmed Diria that he should sell half the shares to us writers and the government keep the rest. He looked at me as if I was a dangerous capitalist agent. But we became great friends until our maker took him.

Now the Daily News is busy living on government ads. It is busy disintegrating into a government public relations department. Editors are now summoned for a finger-wagging session by rulers (Not Jack Mrisho) to be warned to publish and write the ‘right’ things. But you cannot do that in a liberalised, demiocratic place. It is comical – playing the ostrich, by burying you head in the sand!

Mwalimu said that the Daily News will be guided by the principle that free debate is an essential element of socialism, and will serve to encourage and maintain a high standard of socialist discussion.

“The new standard will be free to criticise any particular acts of individual Tanu or government leaders, and to publicise any failures in the community, by whomever they are committed. It will be free to criticise the implementation of agreed policies , either on it’s own initiative or following upon complaints or suggestions from its readers.” Mwalimu wrote.

All has come to nought. I frankly think we have been reduced to a bunch of praise singers. The one party mindset is still intact. Politicians call editors and tell them what to write.

What the pompous politicians should know is that the average reader wants to read what is news. The whole idea of producing a paper is to be read. This is not a fashion show whereby we photograph politicians in different attire every day. Leave the fashion show to that to David and Victoria Bekham.

Usually Mwalimu spoke occasionally. But then, he usually said something. Now guys have nothing to say. They then bore us senseless with the ‘peace and tranquillity’ thing.

Mwalimu meant well, I believe. But there are some ridiculous people who think that the press is about kowtowing to them! It is not. Just leave us alone. I know there are some clowns who have, and are still using the media to become politicians. But most of us journos are just that. And we resent politicians trying to teach us our jobs.

His legacy will continually live.

It is brilliant always, though he always bring it as jokes but for those who read, it make a lot of sense.

Kudos Daily News! Tell me!
