Reli ya Mtwara- Masasi-Nachingwea ilianzishwa na Waingereza baada ya vita kuu ya pili kama njia moja ya kuwapatia kazi ya uzalishaji askari waliokuwa vitani. Kuna miradi ya kulima karanga chini ya kampuni iliyoanzishwa iliyokuwa inaitwa ODC (Overseas Development Company) na ilimilikishwa ardhi kubwa sana kule Nachingwea na Kongwa-Dodoma. Mradi huo haukuweza kuendelea kwa sababu mbalimbali lakini ule wa Kongwa ulibadilishwa na kuanzisha ufugaji wa ng'ombe wa nyama kwa kuanzia na ng'ombe 1000 aina ya borani kutoka Kenya.

Reli ya Mtwara ilifungwa na kuchimbuliwa kila kitu. Nasikia yale mataruma yalipelekwa kujenga kile kipande cha Tabora-Kaliua (sina uhakika na hili). Yote haya yalifanyika chini ya utawala wa Muingereza kabla ya Uhuru.
 
Nasema tena....Hapajawahi kuwa na reli ya Dar- Mtwara ni uwongo mkubwa...reli iliyokuwepo ni Mtwara mpaka Masasi iliyong'olewa na mkoloni kwa kutokuwa na umuhimu wa kiuchumi wakati huo....

Dec 3, 2010 - Transportation Minister Omar Nundu

Transportation Minister Omar Nundu has announced the government’s strategies to improve the performance of railway, marine and air transport, with a view to easing transportation of goods and services in the country.
The newly-appointed minister made public plans of the new transport ministry, which was spilt from the huge infrastructure development ministry, during his first-meeting with the ministry’s staff in Dar es Salaam early this week.
“There are many plans to restructure and improve transport networks,” the minister said.
He noted that the government through the Ministry of Transport, was committed to ensuring efficient marine, air and railway transport in different parts of the country.

Nundu said his ministry had worked out focused strategies to improve the performance of the Tanzania Railway Limited (TRL) increasing its capacity in the transportation of passengers and cargo across the country.
He stressed government plans to construct Dar es Salaam-Mtwara railway network and that a railway network project connecting Dar es Salaam (Tanzania)-Kigali (Rwanda)-Msongati (Burundi) was in the offing.

“The government,” he said, “was taking positive measures to strengthen and improve the performance of Tanzania and Zambia Railway (Tazara) Authority by revamping its infrastructures. The governments of the two countries were committed to changing the structure of Tazara.”
However, Nundu said the government would also speed up the construction of ports in different parts of the country.
According to the minister, the new ports lined up for construction include Mwambani in Tanga and Bagamoyo—under a project for the improvement of railway and port transportation systems from Tanga, Arusha to Musoma.
The minister also noted that the government was determined to expand the Dar es Salaam and Mtwara ports and construct docks at Mafia and Lindi ports.

Moreover, Nundu unveiled the ministry’s strategy to improve air transportation by expanding the Julius Nyerere International Airport setting up a new passenger building and improving its constituent facilities.
He said the ministry would evaluate the potentiality and capacity of the national flag carrier (Air-Tanzania) with a view to putting up workable strategies for attracting strategic investors for the airline.
The minister also cautioned the ministry’s staff to be responsible and accountable in executing and shunning corruption in the course of executing their duties.

To tell you the truth haijalishi nani anakuja; walioondoka waliletwa na serikali ya CCM na wanaokuja wataletwa na serikali hiyo hiyo sasa hatuna ujanja isipokuwa kuibana serikali hii hii. Au wewe huoni kuwa ni suala la serikali ya CCM na sera zake ndio vinahusika na hii reli?

Kulikuwa na reli ya Mtwara mpaka Nachingwea kwa ajili ya mradi wa karanga ambayo waliing'oa wakoloni wenyewe. Sasa sijui tunajadili kipi hapa?
