Police have arrested and detained a man suspected of burying his two- months- old baby boy alive in Masindye village in the central district of Buikwe.

The suspect was picked from his garden as he tried to elude angry residents. The mother of the deceased had reportedly left the baby with the father and when she returned, she asked for the baby to breast feed but the boy was nowhere to be seen.

Police identified the suspect as Geofrey Musisi Omari husband to Annet Kidamu mother of the baby, Omari is currently detained at Lugazi Police Station.

The Central Region Police Spokesman Lameck Kigozi in an interview said that Omari wrapped the baby in his own shirt before digging up a banana plant 30 meters away from his house and burying the baby.

"He dug up a banana plant buried him and re-planted to avoid trace of the baby before he tried to elude the angry residents," Kigozi said.

Upon the return of the wife, Kigozi added, Omari disappeared and on peeping through the window she saw Omari running away, creating suspicions that something wrong had happened.

She went to the neigbourhood to find out if they had any idea about her baby's Where abouts and a local resident only identified as Sam revealed that he saw Omari dig up a banana plant, when it was uprooted the baby was discovered dead.
The angry locals then rounded him up and beat him up before Police came to his rescue.

Omari will appear before Lugazi chief magistrate's court on Friday to plead to charges of murder against him Kigozi said.
