James Sinclair: A Friend or Foe?

ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 11, 2007)

Currie Rose Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:CUI - News) is pleased to announce that drilling has commenced at the Mwamazengo gold discovery on the Mabale Hills project in central Tanzania.

The program is expected to consist of approximately 1,000 metres of Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling, 3,500 metres of RAB (Rotary Air Blast) drilling and 560 metres of diamond drilling. Ground conditions may change to total number of metres drilled.

The RC drilling and the diamond drilling will target the potential "down dip" mineralization intersected at the Mwamazengo discovery during 2005, where 4 RC drill holes intersected near surface gold mineralization over a 225 metre strike length. See Mabale Hills Second Drill Map at www.currierose.com.

The RAB program will drill a number of geochemical anomalies that resulted from recently generated trenching and coincident previously generated geophysical targets.

The results will be announced over the coming weeks.

Msimbati-1X Tests Confirm New Discovery

New Discovery: Msimbati Field

Artumas Group Inc. is pleased to announce continued success in their drilling program with a new exploration discovery in the Mnazi Bay Concession in Tanzania. Results from the Msimbati-1X (MS-1X) exploration well confirm the discovery of the Msimbati Field, comprised of multiple, stacked sands of the Middle Miocene age. The sands are predominantly gas bearing, with indications of small quantities of oil and condensate.

Verification of this new field discovery supports Artumas' analysis of multiple prospects in its Mnazi Bay Concession. The presence of a range of hydrocarbons also provides validation of an active petroleum system extending beyond the Mnazi Bay Gas Field.

Sub-Sahara signs uranium JV for Tanzanian uranium

Perth-based gold explorer Sub-Sahara Resources NL has entered into a joint venture agreement with Canada-based Tanganyika Uranium Corp, which will see the two explore for uranium in Tanzania.

Sub-Sahara holds a 15 per cent stake in the company, which holds 17 mineral licences in the south east of the nation.

The company will contribute $112,000 during the first year and $320,000 during the second year as part of its commitments.

A two stage work program consisting of data compilation, airborne and ground geophysics, geological mapping, pitting and drilling at a total cost of $2.9 million is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2007.

Perth-based Africa-focused explorer Sub-Sahara Resources NL (ASX: SBS) has formed a joint venture with unlisted Canadian company Tanganyika Uranium Corp. (TUC) to explore for uranium in Tanzania.

SBS has a 15 per cent working interest in the joint venture with the remaining 85 per cent held by TUC.

The Madaba-Mkuju Joint Venture holds 17 mineral licences covering 9,689 square kilometres of the Karoo sandstone (Selous Basin) in south-eastern Tanzania, about 225 km from the port city of Dar es Salaam.

The majority of the joint venture area was explored by German uranium explorer, Uranerzbergbau GMBH (Uranerz) between 1978 and 1981. Uranerz discovered significant "Rollfront" style uranium mineralisation within the Karoo sandstones that form part of the Luwegu - Selous Basin.

Based on this work, a two-stage, success-contingent, work program is planned, consisting of data compilation, airborne geophysics, ground geophysics, geological mapping, pitting, and drilling at a total estimated cost of CDN $2.7million over two years. SBS is expected to contribute CDN$105,000 during the first year and CDN$300,000 during the second year as part of its JV commitments).

The work program is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2007.

Potential for success

SBS chief executive officer Mike Griffiths said "The work conducted by Uranerz suggests that there is real potential for success on these licences. Uranerz left these properties in the early 1980s when uranium was around US$7/8 per pound. It is now US$113 per pound, so conditions are much more favourable for commercial success."

Previous exploration results

Work by Uranerz in 1981 consisted of 264 metres of diamond core drilling and 2,953 metres of rotary percussion drilling in a total of 28 vertical holes. The drilling was completed over an area of 10km by 30km. Drill holes depth ranged from 41 metres to 237 metres. Fifteen of the 28 drill holes reached the mineralised horizon with Primary uranium-bearing horizons at Selous traced over a 300km2 area, with the closest drill hole spacings ranging from 0.5 to 3km apart.

Mineralised thicknesses range from 0.7 to 12 metres, below the present water table. The best mineralisation was encountered in Hole 8 and graded 0.056% eU3O8* across 9.1 metres. Within this mineralised interval, a zone of 0.122% eU3O8 was encountered across 1.1 metres from 78.9 to 81.0 metres. The uranium is concentrated in thin horizontal lenses or seams of less than 0.2 metres thick within areas of anomalous radioactivity.

Most of the other 13 holes that successfully penetrated the mineralised horizon averaged 0.05% eU3O8 across thicknesses of 0.5 to 5.1 metres. (* eU3O8 - equivalent uranium concentration determined by gamma ray logs).

Naombeni mwanga.

Ndiyo, Tanzania tunayo Atomic Energy Commission (or something of sort). I have no clue.

Iran four years from atomic bomb, say experts

By David Blair, Diplomatic Correspondent
Last Updated: 6:50am BST 24/04/2007

Iran's nuclear programme is facing such severe technical difficulties that it could take four years to produce enough weapons-grade uranium for one bomb and eight years to deploy an operational nuclear weapon, experts say.

wiran24.jpg
Students hold placards supporting Iran's nuclear right

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's announcement on April 9 that uranium enrichment on an "industrial scale" had begun was "misleading" and the time-scale for success is likely to be longer than early estimates suggested. "It's very difficult to enrich uranium," said Norman Dombey, emeritus professor of theoretical physics at Sussex University. "It calls for several different scientific and engineering disciplines. Iran hasn't yet shown that it has mastered the problem."

Iran's underground facility in Natanz has space for 3,000 centrifuges, the devices used to enrich uranium. Iran has told the International Atomic Energy Agency that only 1,312 have been installed so far. Once all 3,000 are in place, the machines must be fitted together to form 18 cascades. Then technicians must introduce uranium in the form of gas into the centrifuges.

The machines must then spin at 1,500 revolutions per second to separate out the uranium-235, the fissile material capable of producing the chain reaction unleashed by a nuclear bomb. Weapons grade uranium must be enriched to 90 per cent purity.

But the smallest particle of dust - even a fingerprint - can disrupt enrichment. Iran will have to spin all the centrifuges inside a vacuum without any interruption for a period of about one year. If any machine breaks down - or if dust enters the system or if the power supply is lost - the process must halt and start again. Prof Dombey estimates that Iran will need about two years simply to master the process of running centrifuges. Then, making allowances for interruptions caused by breakdowns, it could take another two years to produce enough weapons-grade uranium for one bomb.

Prof Dombey said: "At the moment, their programme doesn't constitute a threat. It would constitute a threat if they were enriching substantial amounts to more than five per cent and they're not. In fact they're not enriching anything very much. This talk about industrial scale enrichment is misleading."

Despite Mr Ahmadinejad's public threat to wipe it from the map, Israel also plays down the progress that Iran has made. On Sunday, Ehud Olmert, the prime minister, said: "Iran is far from attaining the technology threshhold and this country is not close to getting it, contrary to statements by its leadership." An assessment by Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, is believed to agree that Iran is three or four years away from success.

On top of these problems, Iran would still have to master the technology of building a nuclear warhead capable of delivery by a missile. Mohammed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Authority, has said that Iran may be eight years away from a having an operational nuclear weapons system.

If so, America is unlikely to resort to military strikes against Iran in the near future. The Bush administration may calculate that time is available for diplomatic efforts.

Gary Samore, vice-president of the Council on Foreign Relations, a US think tank, said: "Washington feels it has time to play out the diplomatic hand because Iran is having trouble solving technical problems with its centrifuge machines."

"The belief in Western intelligence circles is that a large portion of these machines are likely to break if Iran attempts to operate them at high speeds necessary for enrichment."

MDN: Tulawaka Mine Produces 39,657 Ounces of Gold in the First Quarter of 2007

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 25, 2007)

MDN Northern Mining ("MDN")(TSX:MDN) is pleased to announce that the Tulawaka Mine in Tanzania produced 39,657 ounces of gold during the first quarter ended March 31, 2007. Tulawaka gold production now amounts to 304,019 ounces since the beginning of operations in March 2005.

During the first quarter, the plant facilities processed 110,234 tonnes of ore at an average grade of 12.1 g/t gold at a gold recovery rate of 92%. The total cash costs were US$255 to produce an ounce of gold compared to the budget of US$248.

Mining operations for the month of March have been reduced because of heavy rains which required works to stabilize the slope of the open pit, and initial works for the development of the underground mine.

Nevertheless, the first quarter results are in accordance with the 2007 budget plan, taking into account that the first quarter was expected to contribute 20% of the year total.

For the first quarter, 35,684 ounces of gold were sold into the spot market at an average price of US$655, for total sales of US$23.6M.

The Tulawaka Mine distributed an amount of US$10M to the joint-venture participants MDN (30%) and Pangea Goldfields (70%) in the first quarter; MDN's share of these distributions has been entirely applied to the reduction of its debt. After this cash distribution, the Tulawaka Mine is maintaining cash provisions of US$18.2M, mainly for the development of the underground mine.

The Tulawaka project is a joint-venture between MDN Northern Mining (30%) and Pangea Goldfields (70%), a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation and project operator through its Tanzanian subsidiary Pangea Minerals Ltd. Certain information contained in this press release is based on factual information that was provided to MDN by the project operator. MDN is a mining exploration company with its head office in Montreal, Quebec.

Its main exploration activities are carried out in Tanzania through its participation in the Tulawaka Gold Mine and a controlling interest in 20 mining permits around Tulawaka, including four new gold discoveries currently under a major drilling program.

TanzaniteOne, a giant firm mining gemstones at Mererani in Simanjiro district, Manyara region, will soon be listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchang to enable Tanzanians own shares in the company whose large shares are owned by South African investors.

The Tanzanite One, Cheif Executive Officer (CEO) Ian Harebottle revealed this to members of a parliamentary committee on Community Development and Children Affairs during their visit to the mines recently.

He said projections are that TanzaniteOne will be listed at DSE by the end of this year, thus enabling many locals to own shares in the highly capitalised firm.

According to him, his company has invested up to Sh. 50billion at its Mererani tanzanite mines since 2000.

Shares will be sold at lower cost in order to attract many shareholders from ordinary Tanzanians.

TanzaniteOne is already listed in the London Stock Exchange. At least five per cent of the shares have been bought by Tanzanians resident in the UK.

"Our intention is to ensure that majority shares are owned by Tanzanians because our company is registered in Tanzania and that tanzanite gemstones are only found in Tanzania," Mr. Harebottle explained.

The chairperson of the parliamentary committee Jenister Mhagama said the government appreciated role of TanzaniteOne in the national economic growth and support to the surrounding communities.

She said the government has opened doors for investors in order to improve the economic condition of the people through employment and poverty alleviation.

The firm has spent over Sh. 500 million in the last five years by supporting the local communities in Simanjiro district through water supply, construction of schools and health services.

Soma kipande hiki:-

Angola's diamond output reaches $892.7 mn in 2005 - OECD

Angola's diamond production totalled $892.7 million in 2005, while exports rose 24% over the 2002-2004 period, according to an OECD report, released yesterday in the Angolan capital. The survey, Economic Perspectives of Africa 2005/2006', said diamond mining is expected to increase as a result of 296 licenses granted in 2004 and 2005.

De Beers signed an agreement last year with state-owned Empresa Nacional de Diamantes de Angola (Endiama) to explore a 3,000 sq km kimberlite concession. Endiama holds a 49% stake in the project. BHP Billiton is also exploring diamonds with junior miner Petra Diamonds, its joint venture partner in Angola. In addition, several diamond companies have applied for licences and are actively exploring mining opportunities in the diamond-rich country.

Endiama, currently combines regulatory responsibilities with commercial operations. This, the OECD report said, should be separated as a necessary condition for opening up the diamond sector to small and medium scale private operators.

In terms of overall economic development, it said Angola has seen a dramatic expansion of its relations with China since early 2005, when ChinaEximbank extended Angola $2 billion worth of loans to rehabilitate roads and railways.

The OECD report also highlighted Angola's improved macro-economic management after the end of war, in 2002.

However, it warned that greater effort is required to improve fiscal transparency and balances.

"The authorities now openly acknowledge that corruption is persuasive and that better public management is key to reducing it," the report said.

Oil, diamond and other mining projects together employ an estimated 20,000 people.

Dare to play by the Rules
Author: Jim Sinclair

The doomsayers and naysayers of anything Chinese are finding it extremely difficult to keep their heads high these days. They are laying low and may be doing so for a very long time to come.

Increasingly, more people around the globe are doing business in China and with the Chinese people themselves. In most cases - and especially where Africa is involved - these businesses are all directional.

Mining and mineral exploration as an industry is not an exception to this rule. More Chinese mining companies are seeking partners and mineral opportunities to develop - especially in mineral-rich African countries. The mathematics is simple: China is quickly becoming the largest consumer of metals and minerals in the world today. The country needs these metals to strengthen and complement its strategic industries.

On April 21, 2007, the China-Africa Business Council (CABC) launched its Hong Kong Chapter. The President of the Council, Honourable Vice-Minister Hu Deping, and its Vice-President, Ms. Annie Suk Ching, hosted the event.

Ms. Annie Suk Ching is also the Vice Chairman of the Great China World Trade Centre Association and a member of the Standing Committee, Chinese People's Consultative Conference. Hu Deping is a Vice-Minister in the People's Republic of China and a member of the Central Committee of the Party.

The launching of the CABC Hong Kong Chapter had all major Chinese economic players as invited guests. The President of Tanzania American International Development Corporation 2000 Limited, Joseph Kahama, was also invited to the ceremony. He has been proposed as Special Advisor to the leadership of the CABC.

If you play by the rules in China all things are possible. Joseph Kahama plays by the rules and respects the Chinese and their leaders. As a result, he has gained recognition and credibility which is the foundation for doing business with the Chinese.

The CABC is a non-governmental organization which was jointly founded by the China Society for the Promotion of the Guangcai Program (a poverty alleviation program in China), the United Nations Development Program, and the Ministry of Commerce/China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchange.

The organization is private-sector driven but with strong public sector support. The CABC serves to enhance and support business and business development between China and Africa. It is predicted that within a short period of time business and investment flows between China and Africa will reach over a trillion dollars as a result of CABC initiatives as well as China's "Look Towards Africa" foreign and economic policies.

Substantial flows of investment capital into Africa from China are possible if everyone plays by the rules. Both China and Africa seem to be focused on playing by the rules and making this new reality work for both sides.

Successful business between China and Africa has happened but so too can there be business between China and North America. You may wish to ask Starbucks - whose romantic and prime coffee store in Beijing is located in the historical Forbidden City - if that actually is the case. Who would have thought there would ever be an American coffee shop inside the Forbidden City?

If you dare play by the rules in China, business will successfully happen.

Dear Friends,

I am writing to you from Dubai, 3,642 miles from Beijing, People's Republic of China. After completion of my business here I will be off to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - 2,300 miles further.

My welcome to China was nothing short of spectacular. Upon arrival I was escorted by Joseph Kahama and several government and business officials to the VIP lounge. That removes any need to concern yourself with bags, customs or transportation. After tea, a well-dressed assistant to the Chairman of the company I was visiting arrived with all my belongings and we were escorted to three black vehicles with drivers awaiting us. Off we went to the Peninsula Hotel where our hosts had upgraded us to suites that you could ride motorcycles through at full speed and hit nothing. Business affairs went swimmingly. Where lunches and dinners were concerned, each was hosted by key business and government leaders.

The culminating exquisite event was a surprise dinner at the People's Republic of China's State House. That is State House, comparably to the White House in the USA. Our host was one of the highest ranking ministers in government. The State House mansion is as breath taking as the grounds and entrance to the facility. I felt as if I had just entered the Ming Dynasty and was about to dine with the Emperor. To enter the mansion you cross many small bridges that were in themselves works of art. The grounds had many totally unfamiliar birds in residence.

The meeting room has the feeling of being in the Hall of Power. It seemed as if the top decorator in Asia had personally designed the room. It was decorated with art treasures of the State. Ming Dynasty items were everywhere as if they were pots and furniture set out for daily use. There were relics of the Forbidden City as well.

I was asked to give an address to the College of Earth Sciences at the University of Beijing. Speaking has never presented a problem for me nor has speaking through translators. I believe that the students, professors and government officials enjoyed the presentation and the question and answer period that followed.

The presentation was filmed for the media.

After refreshing and significant talks in the meeting room, we were escorted to the dining room. Once more I was breathless when I entered the door. I was seated beside the topmost official. The table was set with the richest of items. Each plate was in itself a work of art that almost seemed a sin to eat on. Gold was quite predominant on the handles of the chop sticks as well as in the decorative motif of the full table setting. I would say there was at least twenty five courses served, each of which one would simply sample. I always look to my host to determine propriety at such an event.

I believe my trip to Beijing was a major success in all of its various activities.

The Dubai portion of the trip has to do with an assessment of demand for gold and the outlook of major traders. I will stay with my feeling that before I return to the USA this reaction in gold will be over.

I will report to you next from Tanzania where I plan to visit Mwanza.

Regards,

Jim

On The Road Again - The Return
Author: Jim Sinclair

My Dear Friends,

I am so grateful for Dan, Monty, Lars, David and all the CIGAs that sent clips and commentary on important daily events. Your contribution to JSMineset is appreciated by many. Thank you all.

The traveling has been intense, but successful. China is simple, you are either the bulldozer or you are the pavement. The bulldozer is China and the rest of the world including much of Asia by comparison is the pavement. I intend to be the part of the Bulldozer.

Tanzania grows day by day. The skyline changes to major high rise buildings, bustling traffic, shopping centers and malls. The Statehouse at night is a marvel in its beauty. The interior would rival that of any
residence of head of state.

Mwanza, which once was a way station for mining companies and fishing enterprises is now becoming a serious city. Nothing remains the same from week to week as growth is the product of sound leadership and
open markets.

Joseph Kahama and I had the honor of visiting with the President of Tanzania in private audience last evening. Each time I speak with President Kikwete the more convinced I become that his role extends beyond head of state. President Kikwete in his administration and after it will play an increasing part on the stage of world affairs. I am most fortunate to have known the President now for 18 years.

China may well be in the cards for me again in the not too distant future, along with a return here.

I will be booking my return flight soon, take a two day recovery and then be back in saddle.

Sincerely,
Jim
