Is East Africa ready for political federation? Who will lead us there?

Frankly I need a century to think about this Federation!

This federation can work if only we can get schemers out of East African Community from the picture. The challenge is how.

I like this open ended question and genuine concern ya mtoa mada.Personally i dont think we are ready for that, bearing in mind the differences in political dynamics of member nations which may be hinderence to the progress of the federation especially when one of the member's interests are at stake something that is very likely as far as political systems are concerned.

Most member states join themselves on an equal platform. Hakuna kichwa wala mkia

Afrika Kusini wameridhika na their coal, hawana haja wala hawaoni faida na madini ya TZ. Botswana wako hapo karibu nao na madini tungu nzima.

A prominent and academically competent person commenting on the EAC said this: "There are only two countries in the whole of sub sahara Africa with whom Tanzania could form a meaningfull partenship: DRC CONGO and ANGOLA. tanzani Angola and DRC Congo match one onather in natural resources. Think of any natural resource that God can endow a country and its people and you will find it in any of the three countries mentioned above. Any other partnership including the current EAC must be viewed with suspicion. I fully concur with this view on the economic federation of East Africa. As for Political federation this has to be off the table for the time being. Our political, social and security systems are very different between one country and another within the current community. And in any case the pressure for political federation is from some of the power hungry leaders and not from the people.

Dear commrades,
From the outset, I must say it is mindboggling to see that East Africans have chosen to sit and watch as masqueraders run around with their hollow promises of a united East Africa! Where did all the bright minds of this region go? Ugandans relied on the enterprise and availability of the Tanzanians to uproot Amin in 1979, will they be available again to uproot a man whom every body is watching helplessly as he entrenches his dynastical ideas in the guise of a political/economic federation of EA? Cant we question the acceptability of the protagonists of this half baked idea? Does Mr. Museveni for example have clear democratic credentials to warrant his push for this federation? Neither does Kagame. Can we learn lessons from the EU/Eurozone squabbles or cant we? Much as the idea of a Eurozone with a single currency was a bright idea it did not stop right thinking europeans from questioning its wisdom. Uk for example is still stuck to its guns and is not joining tomorrow until after pertnent questions are answered.

The idea of EA federation may be good, but those people who appear to have failed to steer clear of controversial leadership in their own countries should not be allowed to champinion its advent. COME ON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF EAST AFRICA!

Wapendwa wana ndugu wa East Afrika lazima tukubali kuwa kwa hali hii muungano wa EAC utakuwa ndoto, lazima tuwe na katiba zinazo eleweka nchini kwetu kwanza kabla ya kudandia Federation au nchi moja. Bila kwanza kuwa na katiba zinazo eleweka na kukubalika nchini mwetu muungano utakuwa fake. Lazima kuwe tume huru ya uchaguzi na uchaguzi huru kwa kila nchi na mabunge huru, that is political my dear East AFRICANS other wise lets embark on the CU, Common Markets, Single currency then finally with concert from the public political federation beneficially to all east Africans!!!!!!!!!

Ready or not it would be the only way out of this misery. Mikataba yote ya ki karl peters kwenye migodi na Tanesco na mingineyo itabidi iandikwe upya na kama wakituelekeza kwenye mikataba ya kiulaghai hapo tutawameza hai mafisadi.

Kwa kweli mi sioni kwa nini umesema hivo.
Watu wanashindwa kujenga nchi moja wataweza kujenga tano kwa pamoja?
Cultural na national identities bado zina nguvu sana. It is a political thing, not people's choice.
Katika mazingira haya unadhani kweli EAC iko tayari?
