AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
    (NM-AIST)

    EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
    1. BACKGROUND

The Nelson Mandela African Institute Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has been established under the Tanzania's Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, and as part of a network of African Institutes of Science and Technology (AISTs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NM-AIST envisions becoming a World-Class Institution of Higher Learning dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of excellence in science and engineering, and their applications for economic growth and sustainable development in Africa. The NM-AIST will deliver and promote high quality and internationally competitive teaching and learning, research and innovation, and public service in science, engineering and technology for enhanced value addition to people and natural resources, and entrepreneurship to stimulate and catalyze economic growth and sustainable development in Africa.

    2. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The NM-AIST is now in the process of recruiting academic, administrative and technical staff in order to strengthen delivery of postgraduate studies in various fields of science and engineering, within 2010/2011. NM-AIST has started with Master's and PhD programmes in two schools, namely; (i) Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering, and (ii) Mathematics, Computational and Communication Science and Engineering. In addition to the two schools, NM-AIST has also established academic departments which offer PhD programmes for the time being and later Masters programmes in Materials Science and Engineering, Water and Environmental Science and Engineering, and Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering. The programmes also incorporate selected modules of Humanities and Business Studies that will enable our students to develop attributes of effective and efficient technology leadership and industry captaincy.

    3. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES - ACADEMIC STAFF

Applications for employment are invited from citizens of Tanzania and other East African countries to fill various academic positions with key qualifications in the areas of specialization as shown in Table 1. The minimum qualifications and salary scales for the various academic positions are as depicted in Table 2.

    4. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES - ADMINISTRATIVE AND TECHNICAL STAFF

For Senior Administrative and Technical Staff, viz. salary scales 18-21; applications for employment are invited from citizens of Tanzania and other East African countries. For Junior Administrative and Technical staff, viz. salary scales below 18, applications for employment are invited from citizens of Tanzania only to fill the positions as shown in Table 3. The entry salary offered to a candidate will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    5. MODE OF APPLICATION
