Nana Addo ameandika
"A few minutes ago, I received a call from President John Dramani Mahama congratulating me on winning the 2016 Presidential Election and pledging to support my administration.
============================
Nana Akufo-Addo, the Presidential candidate for IDU Member the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won Ghana’s General Elections. With 95% of the ballots counted, Akufo-Addo has taken 53% of the vote giving him an outright majority.
This result means that no run-off election will be necessary. His opponent, the incumbent President John Dramani Mahama, took just 45%. In the Parliamentary elections NPP won 171 out of 275 seats giving them also a clear majority in parliament. Peter Mac Manu, an IDU Vice Chairman, was the NPP Campaign Manager for the elections.
The incumbent socialist National Democratic Congress have damaged Ghana’s economy with reckless spending. Ghana is mid-way through an IMF programme designed to tackle a huge deficit and soaring inflation caused by economic incompetence of NDC.
The result puts the NPP back into power for the first time since 2008. Since the introduction of multi-party democracy in 1992, there have been several peaceful transfers of power. Ghana remains a beacon of security and democracy in a region blighted by instability.
