Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem - DP World to inject over US$ 250 million following the successful singing of Concessions to run upgrade the Dar es Salaam port.

Today marks a special day between Tanzania and DP World. It is a milestone and a significant step working together to upgrade the port of Dar es Salaam to eliminate the delays and make the port of Dar es Salaam a major hub to serve the region for example the copperbelt region in the southern region of this part of Africa.

After a long talks, the government of Tanzania and world giant harbour operator based in Dubai, DP World managed to iron out legal and political issues that were threatening to delay the project.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem outlined DP World to use the Dar es Salaam port geo-strategic location which were recognised by traders centuries ago to trade with hinterlands of Great lakes and southern African region of Africa through Tanzania.

With thousands of kilometers roads and railway networks linking Tanzania with neighbouring countries which brought challenges on how to speed up the port operations and efficiency on handling goods coming in and going out of the harbour so as to meet customer demands who have options to use other ports in the region.

Tanzania being a signatory of The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), East African Community and SADC will ease up the movement of goods within this region and Africa at large.

On that note,Tanzania decided to lookout for partners who can run the ports more efficiently and thus DP World came in, and today's singing is ushering the new beginning of Tanzania positioning itself as a major hub for international trade via High seas.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World and the Chairman of the Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation said, DP World and Tanzania Ports Authority are looking forward for Dubai port and other major ports around the world to work together with Dar es Salaam port on the ship to ship transhipment and regional logistics business.
