How to configure D-Link Wireless N 300 Router ?

Introduction


In my previous article I have explained about how to configure the linksys router with the wireless configuration. Linksys and D-Link are the industry popular for the wireless routers. In this article I would explore the details for configuring the D-Link Wireless N 300 (DIR 615) router with the screenshots. The steps are very similar to the other router configurations, but it would be useful for those who are facing issues on configuring this router. After reading this article, if you have any doubts, please post it in the comments section.


D-Link Wireless Router


When you open the router pack, the following are contents of the package.


Wireless N 300 Router
CD for the installation
Install guide
Removable Antenna
One Ethernet cable
One power adapter
Open the pack and take the CD first. Please insert the CD in the disk, you would see the following screen. Click on the “Install Router” button. Once if you click on the button, router will check for the connection and adapter in the next screen.

Connect the Cables to Router and Modem


You have to follow the screens to start configuring the D-Link router. As a first we would need the cables to be connected properly to the router and the modem. The following screens explains it in detail. When you are clicking on the next button of each screen, it takes to the next screen with details of what you have to do. It is very easy to install.

Configuring the D-Link Router


If you have connected all the cabled correctly, then the router will start the configurations. As a first step, it would check the basic details of the network and its accessibility. The following screen shows the functioning of the router. If your PC has any issues with the network, then your router configuration can not continue. Note that this step may take few minutes because it is verifying with the network settings.

Router Password


If the checking is finished, then it will ask for the router password. This password is used for accessing the D-Link router’s web page to change any router specific settings. Don’t confuse this password with the wireless access password.

Wireless Network Name


The D-Link wireless network name will be displayed to the devises when they are detecting the available wireless networks. It is just the logical name for using this network. You can name anything you want.

Wireless Security Settings

This screen asks for the preferred wireless security settings for your D-Link router. The default selection of the value is the preferred one because of the high security. In most of the cases, you would have to select the first option. Then you must enter the security key for the wireless network. This key is used for accessing the wireless network. If any new device want to use this network to access the internet, first they would connect to the wireless network by selecting the network name. Then it would ask for the security key of the wireless network. If they enter it correctly, it will connect to the network properly.










D-Link Configuration Details


This screen displays the important configuration details to be used for accessing the network. Also this details will be saved in the desktop. Please keep note of this details. After clicking on the next button, it is the final step to configure the router.

D-Link Wireless Router Configured

If the following screen is displayed, then your D-Link wireless router configuration is successful. You can start using the wireless network.


Summary


It is very easy to install the D-Link router. One thing which I have liked in the D-Link is signal strength is better than the linksys router. D-Link itself has the different variety of the routers. If you are buying for the home use, the same model D-Link Wireless N 300 Router (DIR-615) would be sufficient.
