Recently at the KQ office in Dar, I met a fellow traveler, whom we had a discussion on the impact of the influx of Asians in TZ. Needless to say, we were both on the same wavelength; they are taking jobs and business opportunities that could have otherwise benefited the local population.

I would hope this frustration is shared by many. Whenever I am stopped by immigration officers at the Mw. Nyerere airport, I always take the opportunity to ask them why so many Chinese come through. Of course, they are the wrong persons to ask, being that they are so low in the decision-making hierarchy. I guess it is a way of venting…

Anyway, Mbongo mwenzangu at the KQ office went to tell me of an incident where he hailed a Taxi, and to his surprise, the driver was Chinese!

Has anybody come across this Taxi before?

I havent come across a chinese driver, am shocked by what you have written!!! but again if they have flooded the 'china town' kariakoo market and they are doing exactly tubiashara tudogodogo which could have beenor rather is being done by 'wamachinga' wa bongo, then we should expect more suprises.

We have the Immigration Department in the ministry of home affairs as well as the TZ Investment center which issues the b'ness permits for 'investors'. (u can keep that in mind)

LET US BE SERIOUS ON CRUCIAL ISSUES LIKE THIS ONE

huyo anayesema huduma yao nafuu hebu atuthibitishie basi...

asa uhv said it ....hapa si kw amaslahi ya taifa mkubwa....pity!

I recently had a conversation na shop owner hapo Kariakoo, Mtaa wa Swahili. Mimi mwenyewe nimeshuhudia duka moja hapo Kariakoo – adjacent to Swahili street, but near where they sell electrical goods. Jamaa bei zao ziko chini kishenzi, yani huwezi kushindana nao. I didn't buy from them kwasababu najua wabongo wanahitaji biashara yangu. But with those kind of prices, I don't know how long I can hold my breath ...

    Interesting arcticle on Angola.

Unajua haya matatizo yanatokana na misalignment in policies between a government and it's citizen. Sasa masikini Angolans, walifurahi watajengewa stadium, what they didn't know was their government also gave away their jobs to Chinese workers.

China is using the simplest of tack-ticks za misaada. Yani wala sio sophisticated. And our Government signs the agreements. Wanaleta a management team, supervisors, laborers, wapishi, na mpaka changu doa (and some for the locals, so i have heard). They cover everything and they make no secret about it. Ukilalamika wanasema sisi tunawasaidia.

In general, most countries position their laws in such a way that, employing foreign nationals is only considered when local experts are not available. Foreigners hired to work must obtain a visa and/or working permit. In addition, most countries use foreign investors as a way of training their people, and thereby, promoting the transferring of knowledge to the
local population. By the way, this is how many Asian countries were able to make huge strides toward industrialization.

Here are some examples of labor laws targeting foreign investors:

Costa Rican: Labor Law prohibits employers from employing, less than 90% of Costa Rican workers. This percentage may be increased or reduced by up to 10%, during a period not to exceed five years. When a company has no more than five workers, only 80% of them must be Costa Ricans.

Bangladesh: Number of foreign employees should not exceed 5% of the total employees including top management personnel. Initially employment of any foreign national is considered for a term of 2 years which is extensible on the basis of merit of the case.

In Peru: According to labor laws foreign employees should not exceed 20% of the total number of employees and salaries paid to foreigners may not exceed30% of the total company's payroll

Venezuela: At least 90% of all workers in a company that employs 10 or more workers must be Venezuelans. In addition, remuneration of foreign staff should not exceed 20% of the payroll. A larger percentage is permitted only when there is an insufficient number of national specialists.

Industrial relations chiefs, chief of personnel, captains of ships or airplanes, captains or whoever performs similar functions, shall be Venezuelans.

Sasa sisi wabongo tuna enforce law zetu?
