BIOLOGY HOME WORKS SERIES
For advanced level students, observe the date and day please
MONDAY 21/03/2011
1. A biologist isolated a sample of an enzyme called lactase from the intestinal lining of of a calf. The substrate of lactase is lactose which is broken into galactose and glucose. She prepared 2% enzyme solution with different concentrations of lactose and measured the rate of galactose production. She recorded the results as shown below.

2. (a)Define each of the following
(i)Lipid
(ii)Carbohydrate
(b)Why do many organisms store lipids rather than carbohydrates?

4.(i)Why is photorespiration more common in C3 plants than C4 plants?
(ii)Why are C4 plants more efficient in photosynthezing than C3
FRIDAY 25/03/2011
5. (a)Define each of the following
(i)ATP
